Chapter 10 - The Garden of Beacon Hill

That evening, as the golden twilight painted the sky in shades of purple and amber, Blackwood House was filled with life.
The iron gates were decorated with white silk ribbons and fresh greenery. The grand drawing room windows were wide open, allowing the warm summer breeze to drift through the halls that had once been silent and cold.
In the private garden behind the mansion, under a canopy of blooming white hydrangeas and glowing paper lanterns, fifty guests had gathered—dockworkers, city leaders, foundation staff, and loyal security personnel who had served the Vale family for decades.
At the center of the lawn stood Callum and Maeve.
Maeve wore a breathtaking, simple white silk gown that draped softly over her figure, holding a bouquet of yellow roses and white lilies.
Callum stood beside her in his dark tuxedo, looking down at her as if she were the only person in the universe.
The old judge who had presided over Boston’s municipal court for thirty years stepped forward, holding a black leather prayer book.
"We are gathered here tonight," the judge announced, his voice carrying clearly across the quiet garden, "to unite Callum Vale and Maeve Donnelly in holy matrimony. In a world where shadows often cover the truth, these two found light in each other. They proved that loyalty is born not of fear, but of love; and that even the darkest house can become a home when filled with grace."
Callum took Maeve’s hands in his, his rich baritone voice steady and filled with profound emotion as he spoke his vows.
"Maeve," Callum said, looking directly into her eyes. "For four years, I lived in a fortress of my own making, surrounded by walls of steel and blood. I thought my life was meant to be lived in the dark. And then you walked into my world. You protected me when I didn't deserve it. You healed a house that was broken. I promise to honor you, to stand before you against every storm, and to love you for every day of my life."
Maeve smiled, tears of pure happiness shining in her eyes as she spoke her vows.
"Callum," she whispered, her voice ringing clear and true. "You gave me a haven when I was alone. You showed me that behind the terrifying mask the world sees, there is a man of extraordinary honor and warmth. I give you my heart, my hand, and my life, forever."
Callum took a delicate platinum band studded with small diamonds and slipped it onto her finger, while Maeve placed a solid heavy band onto his.
"By the authority vested in me," the judge smiled warmly, "I now pronounce you husband and wife!"
Callum didn't hesitate. He reached out, pulling Maeve into his arms, dipping her back gently over his arm, and pressing his lips against hers in a deep, passionate, life-affirming kiss that echoed across the sunny garden!
The crowd erupted into joyous, thunderous applause! Marcus cheered loudly from the back row, while the kitchen staff wiped happy tears from their eyes.
Callum lifted Maeve back onto her feet, holding her tight against his side as they turned to face their friends and family, their hands locked together, their faces bright under the glowing lanterns.
The cold maid who had walked through the emergency room doors on Christmas Eve was gone.
