Chapter 5 - THE STOLEN LEGACY

The night before the crucial board meeting, Alejandro took Mariana down to his underground private vault—a reinforced room behind his wine cellar that required a biometric fingerprint scan and a passcode.

Inside, metal shelves held confidential company archives, rare art pieces, and family heirlooms.

Alejandro walked over to a velvet-lined box sitting under a spotlight on his central desk.

"This belonged to my mother," Alejandro said softly, opening the box to reveal an exquisite diamond necklace shaped like delicate cherry blossoms. "When Mateo fell in love with Sofia, he told me he wanted to give her this necklace on their wedding day."

Mariana touched the glittering gems reverently. "Sofia wrote to me about Mateo before she died. She called him her quiet prince. She told me he was willing to give up his family's wealth just to live a simple life with her."

"Mateo was the gentlest person I ever knew," Alejandro murmured, looking at Mariana. "And when I look at you... I see that same selfless beauty. You gave up everything for Lucía."

Mariana looked up at Alejandro, her breath catching in her throat. The distance between them vanished. Alejandro reached out, his long fingers gently cupping her cheek, tracing the soft line of her jaw.

"Mariana..." he whispered.

"Alejandro..."

He leaned down and kissed her. It was a slow, deep, powerful kiss filled with years of unspoken longing, relief, and fierce protection. Mariana wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her fingers in his dark hair, giving herself entirely to the moment.

When they finally pulled apart, both of them were breathless.

"Tomorrow, everything changes," Alejandro promised, his thumb gently smoothing her bottom lip. "Tomorrow, I give Lucía her real name, and I clear your sister's memory."

He reached into the vault's main safe and pulled out a heavy steel box. Inside were the original hospital delivery logs, the certified DNA reports, and a recorded video message Mateo had made just three days before his tragic accident.

"This is the proof," Alejandro said, his eyes burning with resolve. "Ernesto thinks he can play games in the media. Tomorrow, I tear his world apart."
