Chapter 10 - Unbroken

That evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon in a brilliant display of crimson, amber, and deep purple, we gathered on the back lawn of our new home on the Eastern Shore.
The house was a classic two-story cedar-shingled estate surrounded by tall oak trees, overlooking a quiet inlet where our boat lay anchored in the calm waters.
Tobias sat on the porch steps, watching Leo chase fireflies through the darkening grass. Marcus was grilling dinner on the stone patio, the rich aroma of roasted vegetables and fresh seafood drifting through the warm air.
I walked down to the edge of the wooden dock extending out into the inlet, holding a small wooden box in my hands.
Inside the box were the last remaining personal effects of my parents—a silver pocket watch belonging to my father, and a pearl necklace that had belonged to my mother, recovered from our old family home after Arthur Vance's assets were liquidated.
Tobias walked down the dock, his footfalls quiet and measured, standing beside me as the night stars began to twinkle in the clear sky above.
"Dad would have loved this place," Tobias said softly, looking out over the water.
"Dad and Mom are here," I said, opening the box and holding up the pearl necklace. "In everything we've built. In the shipyard, in this house, in Leo."
Tobias looked down at his hands— hands that had held a cutting tool beneath a sinking car, hands that had carried the weight of fifteen years of silent suffering.
"We survived, Rosalind," Tobias whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "Against all of them. We survived."
"We didn't just survive, brother," I said, taking his hand and squeezing it tight. "We won."

We stood together on the edge of the water, two children who had been trapped in the dark depths of betrayal, now standing tall in the light of an unbroken future.
Behind us, the warmth of our home glowed bright through the trees, filled with laughter, love, and the unyielding strength of a family that could never be drowned.
