Chapter 6 - The Gala of Whispers

News travels through the elite circles of high society at the speed of light.

By the following week, rumors were exploding across the city's financial and social tabloids. Adrien Blake—the ruthless tech tycoon who was supposed to announce his engagement to international fashion icon Veronica—had completely dropped out of the public eye.

He had missed three major corporate dinners, canceled two television interviews, and was repeatedly spotted in the working-class historic district, carrying bags of groceries into a small flower shop.

The corporate world was demanding answers.

On Friday evening, the annual Metropolitan Children’s Hospital Charity Gala was held at the Grand Plaza Hotel. It was the biggest social event of the autumn, attended by senators, billionaires, media moguls, and high-fashion elite.

Adrien had originally been scheduled to walk the red carpet with Veronica.

Instead, a sleek black Maybach pulled up to the grand entrance of the hotel at 8:00 PM.

The valet opened the door, and Adrien Blake stepped out, looking striking in a bespoke black tuxedo.

He walked around to the other side of the car, opened the door, and offered his hand.

Stepping out into the flashing lights of a hundred photographer cameras was Isabella.

She looked stunning. She wore an elegant, floor-length gown of deep emerald velvet—a gift Adrien had custom-ordered from Paris—that complemented her dark brown hair, which was styled in soft, cascading waves. Around her neck rested a simple, delicate diamond pendant.

Holding her other hand were Lily and Maya, dressed in matching cream-colored princess dresses with tiny green velvet sashes.

Gasps erupted from the crowd of reporters. Camera flashes exploded like lightning strikes.

"Mr. Blake! Who is the woman?!"

"Adrien! Is she your new partner?!"

"What about Veronica?!"

Adrien ignored the shouting press corps entirely. He kept his arm securely around Isabella’s waist, while his other hand held Lily’s small fingers. He walked into the grand ballroom with the air of a monarch protecting his royal family.

Inside the glittering ballroom, beneath crystal chandeliers, hundreds of wealthy guests turned to stare.

Standing near the main bar, surrounded by a group of high-fashion executives, was Veronica. She wore a dramatic silver gown, her face a mask of cold, flawless beauty.

When Veronica saw Adrien walk in holding Isabella’s hand, her champagne glass stopped mid-air. Her eyes burned with pure venom as she scanned Isabella’s simple elegance and the two identical little girls walking beside her.

Veronica excused herself and marched straight across the polished marble floor, her high heels clicking loudly.

"Adrien," Veronica purred, her voice dripping with venomous polite restraint. "What a... surprising arrival. You canceled our engagement dinner for this?"

She glared down at Isabella with utter disdain, sweeping her eyes over her dress as if inspecting dirty laundry.

"And who is your guest? The nanny?" Veronica sneered. "I didn't realize the Children's Gala permitted bringing staff."

Before Adrien could speak, Isabella stepped forward. She didn't flinch, nor did she raise her voice. She looked Veronica straight in the eye with the calm, unwavering dignity of a mother who had fought real battles.

"My name is Isabella Vance," Isabella said smoothly. "And I am not the staff."

"She is my partner," Adrien declared, his voice cutting clearly across the surrounding crowd of listening socialites. "And these are my daughters, Lily and Maya Blake."

A collective gasp echoed through the nearby guests.

Veronica’s face turned bright red, her composure completely shattering. "Your daughters?! You have children with a common florist?!"

"Careful, Veronica," Adrien said, his tone dropping into a terrifyingly low, lethal register that made several nearby businessmen take a step back. "You are speaking to the woman I love, and the future mother of my children. If you utter one more disrespectful word toward them, I will personally pull my firm’s advertising capital from your fashion line by midnight."

Veronica gasped, her mouth opening and closing in utter humiliation. Realizing she was completely outmatched and surrounded by recording smartphones, she turned on her heel and fled toward the VIP lounge.

Adrien turned to Isabella, his eyes full of concern. "Are you alright?"

Isabella looked at him, a small, triumphant smile curving her lips. "I’m better than alright, Adrien. That felt incredible."

Lily pulled on Adrien’s tuxedo jacket, looking up at him with wide, shining eyes. "Daddy, can we get ice cream now?"

Adrien froze.

He stared down at the little girl, his heart stopping in his chest. Daddy. It was the first time either of the girls had called him that word.

Adrien dropped to his knees right there in the middle of the crowded ballroom, completely unconcerned with his expensive suit. He pulled Lily and Maya into a tight, fierce hug, burying his face in their soft hair as tears filled his eyes.

"Yes, sweetheart," Adrien whispered, his voice choking with emotion. "We can get all the ice cream in the world."

Isabella stood above them, looking down at the billionaire who had conquered the city, now kneeling on the floor weeping with joy because a five-year-old girl had called him daddy.
