Chapter 10 - The Prince’s Castle

One year later. Christmas Eve.
Central Park was wrapped in a magical, sparkling blanket of fresh white snow. The trees along the pathways were strung with thousands of twinkling golden lights, casting a warm, romantic glow over the footbridges and frozen ponds.
Standing on the exact same stone footbridge where Sophia Carter had smiled into the wind four years earlier was Dominic Moretti.
He looked younger, happier, his grey eyes bright with a quiet, profound joy. He wore a dark wool coat, holding a cup of hot chocolate in one hand.
Beside him stood Elena, wearing a stylish camel-colored coat—a gift from Dominic—smiling as she watched two figures playing in the snow near the bridge.
Running across the snow, laughing hysterically as she threw soft snowballs at a large snow-man, was four-year-old Lily.
She was dressed in a bright red winter coat, warm white boots, and a matching red hat, her dark hair curls framing a face that was the absolute mirror image of her mother’s beauty.
Running beside her, laughing happily, was Claire—a gentle, warm-hearted kindergarten teacher whom Dominic had met six months earlier through Lily’s new school. Claire knew nothing of mob wars or underground empires; she knew only that Dominic was a loving, devoted father who cherished his daughter more than life itself.
"Daddy! Look!" Lily cheered, running up the stone steps of the bridge, her cheeks rosy from the cold, holding a large, perfectly round snowball. "I made a giant snowball!"
Dominic dropped down to his knee on the stone bridge, opening his arms wide. "Oh no! Are you going to throw it at me?"
"Yes!" Lily giggled, tossing the snowball gently against his chest, where it exploded into a soft cloud of white powder.
Dominic feigned a dramatic collapse onto the snow, making Lily burst into peals of ringing, delightful laughter. She threw herself into his arms, hugging his neck tightly.
Dominic lifted her up into his arms, standing up, holding her close against his heart.
He looked over at Elena, who offered a soft, tearful smile of pure happiness, then looked at Claire, who walked up, gently taking Dominic’s free hand, lacing her fingers with his.
Dominic looked out over the footbridge toward the city skyline glittering under the winter stars.
He reached into his inner pocket, touching the small leather frame that held the photograph of Sophia.
We made it, Sophia, Dominic thought, a serene, peaceful smile touching his lips as a gentle snowflake landed on his cheek. Our daughter is safe. She is loved. The monsters are gone forever.
Lily reached up, gently touching Dominic’s cheek with her warm little hand, holding a tiny, hand-folded paper flower she had made at school that morning.
"Look, Daddy," Lily whispered softly, holding the paper flower up to the golden light of the Christmas tree nearby. "I made a flower for you and Mommy in heaven."

Dominic kissed his daughter’s soft cheek, wrapping his coat around her to keep her warm, surrounded by the women who had saved his life, stepping into a bright, beautiful future filled with light, truth, and unyielding love.
"It’s the most beautiful flower in the world, Lily," Dominic whispered softly. "Just like you."
