Chapter 6 - THE UNMASKING AT DINNER

Victor Haines and two armed security guards burst through the double doors of the dining room, their weapons drawn.

"Grab that girl!" Malcolm shrieked, pointing an enraged finger at Grace. "She’s trespassing! Search her!"

Grace stood her ground near the terrace doors, clutching the blue ledger tightly beneath her apron. Her heart was hammering, but she did not run. She looked directly at Malcolm with a calm, steady gaze that infuriated him even further.

Victor stepped forward, his heavy hand reaching out to grab Grace’s collar. "I told you yesterday, girl—you don't belong here!"

"Touch her," a voice boomed from the shadows behind the terrace curtain, "and you will spend the rest of your life in a federal penitentiary."

The voice was not loud, but it possessed a weight so terrifying, so absolute, that every man in the room froze instantly.

The velvet curtains parted.

Stepping into the brilliant light of the crystal chandelier was Adrian Whitmore.

He was no longer wearing the stained gray cap, the torn coat, or the mud-caked boots. He wore a bespoke charcoal-grey Savile Row suit, a crisp white shirt, and a dark silk tie. His hair was impeccably styled, his jaw clean-shaven, and his eyes held a cold, terrifying brilliance that paralyzed the entire room.

Malcolm’s wine glass slipped from his fingers, shattering into a hundred pieces on the marble floor.

"A... Adrian..." Malcolm gasped, his face turning the color of ash. "You... you were in London..."

"I was never in London, Malcolm," Adrian said smoothly, taking three slow, deliberate steps into the center of the room. His polished leather shoes clicked against the floor with absolute authority. "I have been right here. On my estate. Watching you."

Arthur Pendelton backed away toward the wall, his knees shaking so violently he had to catch himself against a sideboard.

Victor Haines lowered his hand from Grace, looking at Adrian as if he were staring at a ghost. "Mr.... Mr. Whitmore... I... I didn't know—"

"Silence," Adrian commanded without even looking at the guard.

Adrian walked directly over to Grace. In front of the six wealthy investors, the security team, and his trembling management staff, the billionaire bowed his head slightly toward the maid.

"Thank you, Grace," Adrian said gently.

Grace pulled the blue leather ledger from her apron and handed it to him. "Here is the inventory book, Mr. Whitmore."

Adrian took the book, opening it to the flagged pages detailing millions of dollars in embezzled corporate funds and stolen artwork diverted to offshore accounts under Malcolm Reed’s name.

Adrian turned his gaze toward Malcolm, his expression darkening into an abyss of absolute fury.

"You called me a fool who doesn't see what happens under his nose, Malcolm," Adrian said, his voice dropping into an ominous whisper. "You said I don't see my staff. You were right. I didn't see them. But for the last forty-eight hours, I lived among them. I stood at my own gate as a starving beggar."

The investors around the table gasped, looking at Malcolm in shock.

"You, Malcolm," Adrian continued, stepping closer to his senior advisor until he was mere inches away, "saw a helpless old man and ordered him shoved into the dirt. Victor saw a human being in need and treated him like trash. But Grace... Grace saw a person. And she broke your precious, cruel rules to feed him."

Malcolm fell to his knees, clutching Adrian’s trousers in sheer desperation. "Adrian! Please! It was a mistake! I was managing the estate! I served you for nine years!"

Adrian kicked his leg free with effortless disdain.

"You served yourself, Malcolm," Adrian said coldly. "And now, you will serve twelve to fifteen years in state prison."

Adrian raised his hand and snapped his fingers.

The main doors of the dining room swung open once more. This time, it was not estate security who entered, but four state troopers and two federal investigators whom Adrian had summoned twenty minutes prior.

"Officers," Adrian said, handing the blue ledger to the lead investigator. "Take Mr. Reed, Mr. Pendelton, and Mr. Haines into custody. The evidence for grand larceny, corporate fraud, and bribery is fully documented."

As the handcuffs clicked around Malcolm's wrists, his frantic screams for mercy echoed down the long marble hallways of Whitmore House, fading into the night.
