Chapter 10 - Forever Beneath the Sun
Five years later.
The summer sea breeze blew gently across the private beach behind the Vance lake house.
The sun was slowly sinking below the horizon, painting the sky and the calm lake waters in breathtaking shades of deep gold, orange, and soft violet.
Twelve-year-old Lily was sitting on a blanket near the water’s edge, helping six-year-old Maya build a grand sandcastle decorated with smooth white pebbles and wild lake flowers.
A few yards away, Lucas lay on a large lounge chair, holding Clara in his arms. His fingers were gently playing with her long dark hair, while she rested her chin on his chest, watching their daughters laugh under the sunset.
"Look, Daddy! Mommy!" Maya called out, waving her sandy hands wildly as she ran up the beach toward them. "Lily made a castle with a big tower for us!"
Lucas chuckled warmly, sitting up and pulling Maya onto his lap, kissing her sandy cheek until she squealed with laughter. Lily walked up behind her, holding a camera, snapping a photo of her parents and her sister under the golden sky.
"Hold still, everyone!" Lily laughed, setting the timer on the camera and sprinting over to join them on the blanket.
