Chapter 8 - The Collapse

Assistant District Attorney Robert Mercer walked up the stage steps, pulling a gold-embossed warrant from his coat.

“Arthur Oseni,” Mercer announced through the podium microphone. “You are under arrest for first-degree murder, solicitation to commit murder, corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, and tampering with evidence.”

Arthur looked at me, his eyes wide with a mixture of terror and pathetic pleading. “Henry… please… I’m your family! I’m your father’s brother! You can’t let them do this to me! I built this company for you!”

I stepped in front of him, looking down into the eyes of the man who had stolen two decades of my life and murdered a hero.

“You didn't build this company for me, Arthur,” I said softly, my voice cold as ice. “You built it on the blood of a good man. And my father would have despised everything you’re standing for right now.”

The officers grabbed Arthur’s arms, pulling his hands behind his back and snapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists. As they dragged him off the stage, screaming and swearing at the cameras, the entire room stood in stunned, breathless silence.

I turned to Grace.

She stood near the edge of the stage, her hands resting over her chest, tears streaming down her cheeks as she watched her father’s killer being led away in chains.

I walked over to her, taking her small, trembling hand in mine.

“It’s over, Grace,” I whispered. “He’s never going to hurt anyone again.”

She looked up at me, a soft, beautiful smile breaking through her tears. “He knows now, Henry. My dad knows.”
