Chapter 10 - Always & Forever

The summer sun dipped low over the Hudson River Valley, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of violent pink, soft orange, and deep lavender.

Behind Vance Manor, the rose garden was in full, glorious bloom. Hundreds of yellow roses swayed gently in the evening breeze, filling the warm air with their sweet, delicate fragrance.

On the wooden bench beneath the old apple tree—the very tree where two young girls had played twenty years ago—sat Celeste and Anna.

Anna was leaning back, her sketchpad in her lap, drawing the outline of the new fountain being built near the lily pond. Celeste sat beside her, sipping tea, watching the sunlight play across the green lawn.

"Julian said the new center in Buffalo opens next month," Anna said, looking up from her drawing with a bright grin. "We already have thirty teenagers enrolled in the mentorship program."

"I know," Celeste smiled, reaching out to tuck a stray lock of blond hair behind Anna's ear. "You're a remarkable director, Anna. Dad would be so incredibly proud of you."

Anna quieted, her eyes looking out over the blooming yellow roses. "Do you think they can see us, Celeste? Mom and Dad?"

Celeste looked up at the vast, peaceful twilight sky, feeling a deep, profound sense of warmth settle into her chest. She reached down, picking up the silver heart pendant hanging around her neck, letting it rest in the palm of her hand.

"I know they can, sweetie," Celeste said softly. "They brought us back together. They kept that tiny spark alive through eighteen years of darkness."

Anna reached out, resting her hand over Celeste's, their silver pendants catching the final golden rays of the setting sun.

"No more secrets," Anna whispered.

"No more lies," Celeste replied.

The two sisters sat together under the apple tree as the stars began to appear one by one in the darkening sky. The house behind them was glowing with light, filled with warmth, laughter, and the promise of a thousand tomorrows.

They had faced the fire, torn down the fortress of deceit, and reclaimed their rightful lives. They were no longer the victims of a tragic past—they were the architects of a bright, beautiful future.

Side by side, holding hands, always and forever.
