Chapter 9 - A New Beginning
Marcus opened the velvet box.
Inside sat a breathtaking sapphire ring, surrounded by delicate white diamonds that caught the sunlight like stars.
“Eleanor,” Marcus said softly, taking my right hand in his. “Two years ago, I watched you fight your way back from the darkest corner of the world. I’ve seen your strength, your brilliant mind, and your beautiful heart. I want to spend the rest of my life honoring you, loving you, and standing beside you.”
Tears of pure, radiant happiness filled my eyes.
“Will you marry me?” Marcus asked softly.
I looked into the eyes of the man who had healed me, who had respected me when I was silent, and who had loved me for who I truly was.

He slipped the sapphire ring onto my finger, pulling me into a tender, passionate kiss that wiped away the last remaining shadows of my past.
