Chapter 9 - The Sarah Vane Foundation

Six months later.

The dark legacy of Vane Enterprises was officially erased from the city.

The corporate headquarters in downtown Columbus had been completely remodeled, its dark tinted glass replaced with clear, energy-efficient crystal. The grand sign at the entrance no longer read Vane Enterprises.

It read: The Sarah Vane Children's Foundation & Research Institute.

On a crisp October morning, hundreds of guests, doctors, community leaders, and families gathered in the main atrium for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The foundation, funded entirely by Apex Global's profits, was designed to provide free medical care, housing support, and educational grants to struggling single parents and orphaned children across the state.

Thomas stood on the stage, wearing a comfortable blue sweater, holding the microphone with complete ease.

"Five years ago," Thomas spoke into the microphone, his voice warm and resonant, "I thought that loss was absolute. I thought that when you lose the person you love, the world stops turning and leaves you in the dark."

He looked down at the front row, where Rebecca, Samuel, and Jacob sat alongside Mrs. Gable and Marcus.

"But my children showed me that love isn't just something you feel," Thomas continued. "It’s something you build. It’s the shelter you provide when the storm is raging outside. This foundation is built so that no child will ever be forced to serve at a table where they aren't loved."

The crowd broke into massive, thunderous applause.

Rebecca, Samuel, and Jacob walked up onto the stage, holding a long purple ribbon. Together, with Thomas’s hands wrapped over theirs, they cut the ribbon, sending golden confetti flying into the air.

For the first time in years, the memory of Sarah wasn't tied to pain or grief. It was tied to life, light, and hope for thousands of children who would never be forgotten again.
