Chapter 5 - The Ambush at the Gate

On Monday afternoon, the flight from Miami landed at Denver International Airport. Brent, Diane, and Karen loaded their luxury luggage into a rented SUV, laughing and gossiping about how they would redecorate the mansion once Tessa was legally forced to sign over partial ownership.
As they drove up the winding, pine-lined roads of Redwood Crest Drive, Diane adjusted her makeup in the visor mirror. "I want that godforsaken pink nursery dismantled immediately, Brent. We’ll turn it into a proper study for your trading accounts."
"Consider it done, Mom," Brent smirked, pulling the SUV up to the massive iron security gates of the estate.
He rolled down his window, reaching out to press his thumb against the biometric scanner he had altered before leaving. The scanner didn't blink green. In fact, it wasn't even the same scanner. A sleek, black, military-grade interface met his hand, displaying a flashing red message: ACCESS DENIED. UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY PROTOCOL ACTIVATED.
Brent frowned, hitting the intercom button violently. "What the hell? The system must have glitched over the weekend."
Instead of the automated house system responding, the heavy iron gates swung open slowly. Brent smiled triumphantly. "See? Just delayed."
He pulled the SUV through the gates, driving up to the grand circular driveway. But the moment he parked, three black, unmarked security vehicles pinned his rental SUV from behind, blocking any escape route. Six heavily armed, professional security guards in tactical gear stepped out, their hands resting deliberately on their holsters.
Diane gasped, clutching her pearls. "Brent! What is the meaning of this? Did Tessa hire thugs?"
Brent threw his door open, his face red with sudden anger. "Hey! What do you think you're doing? This is my house! Get these vehicles out of my driveway before I call the police!"
A tall, imposing man with a military haircut stepped forward, holding a folder of laminated documents. "Identify yourself."

"I am Brent Morelli! I own this estate!"
The guard didn't flinch. He opened the folder. "Mr. Morelli, you are currently trespassing on private property owned by the Horizon Trust Entity. The previous owner, Tessa Vance, sold this property in an all-cash transaction finalized last Friday. You have exactly two minutes to clear your vehicles from this perimeter, or you will be detained for criminal trespassing and grand larceny."
