Chapter 7 - The Auction of Shadows

The news broke at six o'clock that evening.
Every major local news channel reported a massive firesale of maritime assets being conducted by an offshore entity registered in the Cayman Islands—an entity managed directly by Samuel Vance and backed by Viktor Hale’s foreign capital group.
They were publicly auctioning off the private clearing rights to the New York harbour, claiming they possessed the original, verified 1952 founding ledger.
"They're bluffing," Marcus declared, watching the television screen in the Queens safe house. "They don't have the final phonetic key."
"They don't need it to destroy us," Dominic said coldly, standing by the rain-streaked window. "If the buyers believe Hale has the legal authority to transfer those routing rights, fifty billion dollars in commercial traffic will re-route through Canada by midnight. My family’s operations will be bankrupt before the court opens tomorrow morning."
"Where is the auction being held?" I asked, standing up from the desk.
Dominic turned around, looking at me with a mixture of concern and sternness. "It’s being held at the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel. It’s an invitation-only gathering for the wealthiest logistics executives in the world. It’s not a place for a fourteen-year-old girl."
"Samuel Vance is going to present a forged version of my father’s work to those executives," I said, my voice ringing with a strength I didn't know I possessed. "He stole my father’s name, he let him die in poverty, and now he’s using his genius to commit the biggest fraud in the city's history."
I picked up the final decoded page of the journal and held it out to Dominic.
"You have the security team to break through the doors," I said. "But I’m the only person in this world who can stand in front of those buyers and prove that Samuel’s ledger is a fake."

Dominic stared at me for a long, silent moment. Then, he turned to Elena.
"Call the finest tailor on 5th Avenue," Dominic commanded. "Get Maya a dress fit for an heiress. If she’s walking into the Plaza, she’s walking in as my primary executive advisor."
