Chapter 10 - The Fresh Feast

Eighteen months later.

The afternoon sun poured through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows of Apartment 14B, casting warm, golden rays across the newly polished hardwood floors.

The apartment looked completely transformed. The old, dreary furniture chosen by Keaton and Bernice had been replaced with sleek, modern Scandinavian design—a plush cream-colored sectional sofa, a massive oak dining table, vibrant abstract paintings, and living green plants blooming in every corner.

The foreclosure lien had long been erased from the title by court order. The liquidations of Austin’s seized Porsche, luxury watches, gold bullion, and crypto wallets had yielded over three hundred and fifty thousand dollars, which Marcus had successfully secured as full financial restitution deposited directly into my personal high-yield investment account.

My career at the firm had flourished beyond my wildest dreams. As Regional Finance Director, I had just led our division to its most profitable quarter in ten years, earning a massive performance bonus on top of my twelve-thousand-dollar monthly salary.

In the spacious kitchen, the air was filled with the mouth-watering aroma of garlic butter, seared prime ribeye steaks, roasted rosemary potatoes, and fresh warm bread.

I stood at the kitchen island, wearing a comfortable cashmere sweater, stirring a rich mushroom reduction sauce in a copper pan.

The front door opened with a soft click, and the sound of cheerful laughter filled the foyer.

In walked my parents, holding hands, carrying a large bouquet of fresh yellow sunflowers, followed by Sarah, my executive assistant and now one of my closest personal friends.

"Smells incredible in here, sweetheart!" my mother beamed, walking into the kitchen and wrapping her arms around me in a warm, tight hug.

"Elena, you shouldn't have cooked all this!" Sarah laughed, placing a bottle of fine vintage red wine on the island. "You work sixty hours a week; you should have let us order catering!"

"Nonsense," I smiled, stepping over to pour four glasses of wine. "Cooking used to be a chore when I was doing it for people who didn't appreciate a single bite. Now, cooking for people I love is my favorite way to celebrate."

We sat down around the massive oak dining table, filled with platters of steak, fresh vegetables, warm bread, and rich wine.

My father raised his glass, looking across the table at me with eyes brimming with pride.

"A toast," my father said, his voice deep and warm. "To my brilliant daughter, Elena. A woman who proved that no matter how deep the betrayal, courage, truth, and self-respect will always win the day. To your success, your freedom, and your bright future."

"To Elena!" everyone clinked their glasses together, the clear crystal ringing musical notes through the bright, sunlit room.

I took a sip of the rich red wine, looking around at the smiling faces of the people who truly cared for me.

I thought back to that cold autumn evening two years ago—to the two cheap paper cups of instant noodles sitting on a dark dining table, to the lies, the forged documents, and the parasitic greed of people who tried to steal my future.

They were gone now. Serving their time in cold prison cells, paying the price for every forged line and stolen dollar.

I had built this life with my own hands, my own mind, and my own unyielding spirit. No one could ever threaten my home again. No one could ever calculate how to spend my hard-earned money. And no one would ever demand anything from me that I did not freely choose to give.

I picked up my fork, smiled at my parents, and enjoyed every single bite of the feast I had earned.
