Chapter 10 - The Life We Were Meant to Have

Three years later.

The sun was setting over the waters of Bainbridge Island, casting a brilliant golden-orange glow across the quiet, forested coastline.

A beautiful two-story coastal home sat nestled among the cedar trees, featuring a wide wooden porch, a flower garden, and a stone pathway leading down to a private beach.

Four-year-old Clara, Daisy, and Violet were running along the water's edge, wearing matching yellow raincoat boots, splashing happily in the shallow waves, searching for smooth sea glass under the watchful eye of our big golden retriever, Barnaby.

I stood on the wide wooden porch, leaning against the railing, holding a warm cup of chamomile tea.

My hair was longer now, my face radiant, healthy, and filled with deep, unshakeable peace.

Soft footsteps sounded on the wooden deck behind me.

Julian stepped up beside me, wrapping his arms gently around my waist, pulling me back against his solid chest, resting his chin lightly on my shoulder.

"The girls found five pieces of green sea glass today," Julian whispered softly into my ear, his deep voice sending a familiar, sweet warmth through my heart. "Clara declared that she is going to build a crystal castle on the kitchen counter tonight."

I laughed softly, leaning my head back against his shoulder, looking down at our daughters playing by the water.

"She takes after her stepfather," I murmured playfully, turning in his arms to look up into his face. "Always building big, beautiful things."

Julian looked down at me, his fingers gently tracing my jawline, his eyes filled with a love so deep it took my breath away.

"You gave me a home, Corinne," Julian whispered softly. "You and those three extraordinary little girls gave me the greatest life I could ever have dreamed of."

He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, velvet-lined box, opening it to reveal a simple, breathtaking platinum ring adorned with three sparkling blue sapphires—one for each of our daughters.

"Corinne," Julian said, his voice trembling slightly with quiet emotion. "Will you marry me and let me spend every day of my life loving you and protecting our family?"

Tears of pure, radiant joy welled in my eyes, glistening under the golden evening sun.

I looked at the ring, then looked out at the beach where Clara, Daisy, and Violet were laughing, waving their tiny arms at us from the sand.

Four years ago, I was lying on a cold operating table in Tacoma, listening to my ex-husband laugh with another woman as my world shattered into a million sharp pieces. I thought my life was over. I thought my heart would never heal.

But standing here today, surrounded by the unconditional love of a true man, looking at three healthy, thriving, joyful little girls, I knew the truth.

My life hadn't ended on that cold rainy afternoon.

It had simply been clearing away the shadows to make room for the light.

"Yes, Julian," I whispered, stepping into his arms, kissing his lips as the sunset painted the sky in gold. "A thousand times, yes."

And as the tide rolled gently against the shore, carrying away the last echoes of the past, our laughter blended with the sound of the ocean—a song of resilience, victory, and a love that would last forever.
