Chapter 7 - The Cleaning of the Slate

The restoration of a family name doesn't happen through press releases; it happens through actions that the public can see.
A week after Maris Williams was removed from the board, Victor held a press conference in the main auditorium of the Williams Group headquarters. The room was packed with financial journalists, lifestyle bloggers, and TV crews. They were expecting a corporate spin—a calculated statement about "strategic real estate realignments" and "family transitions."
Instead, Victor walked onto the stage accompanied by Catherine and Annie. Catherine wore a stunning, understated emerald-green dress, her posture elegant, her head held high. Annie sat between her parents, looking curiously at the flashing cameras without fear, her small hand tucked into her mother’s lap.
"Thank you for coming," Victor said, standing behind the microphone. He didn't look at a script. "For the last three years, the Williams Group has operated under a facade of social responsibility while its inner circle committed a grave injustice. My mother, Maris Williams, used corporate resources to orchestrate the forced exile of my wife, Catherine, and my daughter, Annie."
A collective gasp echoed through the press pool. Reporters began to frantically type on their laptops.
"She did this by forging legal documents, embezzling corporate funds, and using our security infrastructure to enforce a lie," Victor continued, his voice steady and resolute. "As the CEO of this company, I take full responsibility for my own blindness. I allowed my trust in my mother to make me deaf to the cries of my family."
He reached over, taking Catherine’s hand and raising it so the cameras could see their joined fingers.
"Therefore, today we are announcing the launch of the Catherine Williams Foundation for Single Mothers and Children in Transition," Victor announced. "The Williams Group is committing fifty million dollars—the exact amount my mother siphoned from our family assets over the last three years—to construct five comprehensive support centers across the northern districts of Mexico City. These centers will provide free legal aid, medical care, emergency housing, and educational scholarships to mothers who have been forced out of their homes by economic or domestic abuse."

The auditorium erupted into thunderous applause. The journalists who had come looking for a dirty family scandal realized they were witnessing something much rarer: the total, unconditional weaponization of a corporate fortune for the sake of true restitution.
From the front row, Julian smiled, snapping a photo of his brother and sister-in-law on his phone. The Williams name was no longer a symbol of high-society corruption; it had become a shield for the very people Maris had spent her life trying to trample.
