Chapter 10 - The Airport Return

Two years after our wedding.

Boston Logan Airport was just as crowded and noisy as it had been on that life-changing morning. Announcements echoed overhead, travelers rushed toward gates with heavy luggage, and the bright fluorescent lights illuminated the polished floors of Terminal C.

Graham and I walked through the terminal holding hands.

He wore comfortable dark trousers and a simple sweater, looking relaxed and radiant. I wore a bright yellow dress that swung gently around my knees.

In front of us ran three four-year-old children—Leo, Maya, and Chloe—wearing matching blue jackets, laughing and chasing each other toward Gate C14 as my sister Sarah walked beside them, keeping a watchful eye.

We were heading to Chicago for a family vacation, visiting the city where our journey of healing had first begun.

As we passed the exact spot near the duty-free shop where Graham had dropped his phone two years earlier, Graham slowed his pace and stopped.

He looked at the polished floor, then turned to look at me, a profound look of emotion washing over his face.

"What is it, sweetheart?" I asked softly, resting my hand against his arm.

Graham looked out at our three children, who were now standing near the gate window, pointing excitedly at a big silver airplane landing on the runway.

"I was thinking about the man who stood right here two years ago," Graham murmured, his voice thick with emotion. "He had a three-thousand-dollar suit, a multi-billion-dollar empire, and he thought he owned the world."

He pulled me close, wrapping his arm around my waist, resting his chin against my head as we watched our children laugh.

"He was so blind," Graham whispered softly. "He had no idea that the most precious thing in the universe was walking right past him wearing a yellow sweater and holding half a cracker."

I smiled, turning in his arms to wrap my hands around his neck, looking up into his beautiful blue-gray eyes.

"And now?" I asked gently.

Graham smiled—a clear, brilliant, radiant smile that warmed my entire soul. He leaned down and pressed a sweet, tender kiss against my lips.

"And now," Graham whispered into the warm airport air, "I am the richest man in the world."

Maya's bright voice called out from the gate window: "Papa! Mama! Look! The plane is here!"

Graham laughed, grabbing my hand, and together we walked forward toward our children, stepping out into the bright, beautiful sunshine of our forever home.
