Chapter 8 - The Renewal of Blood

The morning sun rose over Chicago, casting a brilliant golden light across the snow-covered grounds of the Gallow estate.

The Vance crime syndicate was dismantled in a single night. Its assets were seized, its leaders arrested or fled, and the Moretti cartel’s presence in the city was completely erased.

Inside the sunlit master bedroom of the mansion, Layla woke up to the smell of fresh coffee, warm croissants, and sweet strawberries.

Sitting on the edge of the bed was Dominic. He was dressed in a simple dark sweater, his dark hair damp from a shower, his gray eyes soft as he looked down at her.

"Morning," Dominic said gently, setting a breakfast tray across her lap.

Layla smiled, sitting up slowly and rubbing her eyes. "Where have you been? I woke up at dawn and you weren't here."

Dominic reached out, taking her soft hand in his. "I was finalizing some business. The Vance family is no longer a threat to us. Ever again."

Layla looked into his eyes, understanding the unsaid words beneath his calm tone. The nightmare was finally over. She and her babies were safe.

"Dominic," Layla said softly, leaning forward to touch his face. "What happens now?"

Dominic reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He didn't drop it on the floor. He didn't toss money at her feet.

He got down on one knee beside the bed, opening the box to reveal a stunning, flawless yellow diamond ring that shimmered like sunlight on the ocean.

"Layla Bennett," Dominic said, his voice deep and filled with unshakeable sincerity. "I ruined your life four months ago out of pride and stupidity. I cast you out into the cold when I should have worshipped you. I cannot change the past, but I will give you every second of my future."

He looked up at her, his amber eyes burning with pure devotion.

"Will you marry me? Will you be the mistress of this house, the mother of my sons, and the only woman who holds my heart?"

May you like

Tears of pure happiness spilled over Layla’s lashes. She reached out, cupping his strong jaw, and pulled him up into a deep, tender kiss.

"Yes," she whispered against his lips. "Yes, Dominic. I will."
