Chapter 9 - The Miraculous Birth

Two months later. May in Chicago.
The city had completely thawed, blooming with vibrant tulips along the riverwalk and warm spring sunshine.
In the private luxury wing of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the air was tense but filled with quiet anticipation.
Layla lay on the delivery bed, her hair soaked with sweat, holding onto Dominic’s hand with a grip so strong it nearly crushed his fingers.
"Push, Layla! Push!" the doctor encouraged. "The first baby is almost here!"
"Dominic!" Layla screamed, her body wracked with a massive contraction. "It hurts!"
"I'm here, sweetheart," Dominic soothed, leaning down to press his forehead against hers, ignoring the crushing pain in his hand. "Look at me. Look into my eyes. You are the strongest woman in the world. Push, my love!"
With one final, triumphant cry, Layla pushed.
The loud, piercing cry of a newborn echoed through the delivery room.
"It’s a boy!" the doctor cheered, lifting a healthy, squirming baby. "8:14 AM! Baby A is born!"
Before Layla could catch her breath, another fierce contraction hit her body.
"Here comes the second one! One more big push, Layla!"
Layla looked at Dominic, her eyes filled with exhaustion and love. Dominic leaned down, kissing her lips deeply, giving her the strength she needed.
With a powerful surge of maternal will, Layla pushed one last time.
A second loud, healthy cry joined the first, filling the room with the beautiful symphony of new life.
"Baby B is here! Another boy! 8:16 AM!"
Dominic stood beside the bed, tears streaming down his face as the nurses wrapped the two tiny boys in warm blankets and placed them gently onto Layla’s bare chest.
Layla wept with pure joy, her hands cradling the two small, soft heads resting against her heart. They had dark hair like their father, and tiny, perfect little fingers that reached out to touch her skin.
Dominic leaned over them, wrapping his arms around Layla and their two sons, sealing them in a warm, impenetrable embrace.
"Meet your sons, Dominic," Layla whispered through her tears.

Dominic kissed the tiny heads of his boys, then kissed Layla’s lips with a reverence that filled the entire room.
"Alexander and Samuel," Dominic whispered softly, naming them after her late father and his own lineage. "Our sons."
