Chapter 9 - Rebuilding the Hearth

The west wing of the mansion was badly damaged, but the structure of their home—and their family—remained intact.
For the next few weeks, the Hale family stayed in a cozy rental cottage near the town center. The community, realizing the truth after Julian Thorne’s arrest and the exposure of his smear campaign, rallied around them.
Local carpenters offered to help Victor rebuild the mansion for free. Customers lined up down the block to help Clara clean and reopen The Golden Hearth. The boarded-up window was replaced with a beautiful, stained-glass pane depicting a golden phoenix rising from the ashes.
One evening, in the small, cramped kitchen of their temporary cottage, Clara was teaching Mason and Lily how to braid Challah bread. The kitchen was messy, flour coating every surface, but the laughter was louder than ever.
Theo sat at the small dining table, studying for his exams, looking happier and healthier than he ever had. Ryder and Cole were playing with toy dragons on the rug, making explosion sounds.
Victor walked in, shaking the fresh snow off his coat. He didn't look like the cold, ruthless billionaire anymore. He looked like a man who had found his peace. He walked over to Clara, wrapping his arms around her waist, breathing in the scent of her vanilla perfume and fresh yeast.

"The contractor says the mansion will be ready by spring," Victor whispered in her ear.
"I'm in no rush," Clara smiled, leaning back against his chest. "We have everything we need right here."
