The gala was the most successful event in the company's history. Thorne was behind bars, the evidence of his embezzlement laid out for the world to see.

But for Ethan and me, the gala was just a backdrop.

We stood on the balcony overlooking the Chicago skyline, the air crisp and clean. The secrets that had once defined his life—the grief, the tragedy, the closed-off rooms—had been replaced by the quiet, steady rhythm of our life together.

"You kept the scarf," I said, looking at the display case that had been moved from the dark room to a beautiful, glass-enclosed space in our private study.

"I did," Ethan said, wrapping his arms around me. "But I don't look at it with pain anymore. I look at it as the reason I found you."

"And the rain?" I asked, looking up at him.

He leaned down and kissed me, a slow, lingering promise of a future that had no walls, no locks, and no secrets.
