Chapter 9 - The Garden of Rebirth

Two years later.

The summer sun shone warmly over the terraces of Villa Moretti.

The old stone mansion had been completely restored, its cold gray walls now covered in climbing green ivy, sweet jasmine, and bright red roses.

Sitting on a wide picnic blanket spread out over the lawn was five-year-old Emma, sitting with her uncle Marco, happily building a massive wooden block castle under the shade of an old oak tree.

A few feet away, sitting on a cushioned garden bench, was Clara Moretti, wearing a soft yellow linen dress, her dark hair pinned back with gold clips.

In her arms, she cradled her two-month-old son—little David Alessandro Moretti—a healthy, chubby baby boy with his father’s striking blue eyes and his mother’s gentle smile.

Alessandro walked out from the terrace doors, wearing a relaxed white linen shirt and dark trousers. He walked across the soft grass, dropping to one knee beside the bench.

He leaned down, placing a soft kiss on his sleeping son’s forehead, before looking up into Clara’s green eyes.

"How is the young Prince of Milan?" Alessandro murmured softly, his hand resting over Clara’s on the baby’s blanket.

"He just fell asleep," Clara smiled gently, leaning over to kiss her husband's cheek. "He takes after his father. He refuses to sleep unless he’s holding onto someone."

Alessandro chuckled softly, pulling Clara close against his side, resting his arm around her waist.

"Look at them," Alessandro whispered, nodding toward Emma and Marco laughing under the oak tree.

Emma held up a small, newly made stuffed bear that Alessandro had bought her for her birthday, placing it right beside her worn blue rabbit on top of the wooden castle tower.

"She still takes that rabbit everywhere," Clara smiled softly, resting her head on Alessandro’s broad shoulder.

"That rabbit brought me my wife, my daughter, and my soul, Clara," Alessandro said, his deep voice rich with emotion. "I’m thinking of having it cast in solid gold and placed in the central vault."

Clara laughed softly, her heart overflowing with a joy so deep and vast she knew it would last a lifetime.

"A gold rabbit is nice, Alessandro," Clara murmured, looking out over the sunlit gardens of their home. "But this... this life we built... is infinitely more precious."

Alessandro squeezed her hand tightly, his dark eyes fixed on the horizon, at peace for the first time in his life.
