Chapter 3 - Boardroom Bloodbath

At 9:00 AM on Monday, the executive boardroom of Vance Tech Solutions was filled with board members, major investors, and senior VP staff. Jeffrey sat at the head of the mahogany table, looking disheveled despite his tailor-made suit. Dark circles shadowed his eyes. Beside him sat Noelle, who had insisted on attending as a minor shareholder, and Cynthia, who had brazenly taken a seat in the executive assistant's chair right behind Jeffrey.

"I assure you all," Jeffrey said, drumming his fingers nervously on the table, "the rumors of internal instability are completely fabricated. Madeline has returned from London, but she is currently dealing with personal emotional distress regarding our son. The European expansion assets are fully locked under our corporate banner."

"Are they, Jeffrey?"

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open. Madeline walked into the room dressed in a sharp, tailored ivory power suit, her heels clicking cleanly against the hardwood floor. Standing beside her was Vance Croft, carrying a thick leather briefcase, accompanied by two forensic accountants.

Jeffrey slammed his hands on the table, standing up rapidly. "Madeline! You can't be here! You are on administrative leave!"

"I am the co-founder, 45% equity holder, and Chief Technology Officer of this firm," Madeline said calmly, walking to the foot of the table. "And as of eight o'clock this morning, the European IP patents—which generate 60% of this company's projected revenue—have been legally isolated into an independent holding company owned entirely by my son's trust."

The board members gasped. Whispers erupted across the long table.

"What are you talking about?!" Noelle screamed, jumping out of her chair. "You stole Jeffrey’s work! You witch!"

"Silence your mother, Jeffrey, before my counsel has her removed by security for disturbing a public corporate session," Madeline commanded, her eyes cold as flint.

Vance Croft stepped forward, placing a stack of legal documents in front of each board member. "Ladies and gentlemen of the board, what Mr. Vance has failed to inform you is that over the past twenty-four months, he has diverted upwards of $3.2 million of corporate research funds into offshore accounts registered under the name of Ms. Cynthia Miller—his secretary."

Cynthia went dead pale, her hands trembling as she grabbed the document in front of her. "That's a lie! Those were legitimate consulting fees!"

"Consulting fees for a company registered in the Cayman Islands that lists a nail salon as its physical address?" Madeline asked, offering a ghost of a smile. "I audited the London transaction lines myself over the last six months. Jeffrey didn't just cheat on his family; he robbed this board to buy Cynthia a four-million-dollar estate in Buckhead and underwrite his mother's gambling debts in Biloxi."

"This is a coup!" Jeffrey shouted, his voice cracking with desperation. He looked around the table at the board members, but every single one of them was reading the forensic accounting summary with horrified expressions. "Board members, don't listen to her! She is mentally unstable! Her son is invalid, and she's taking her grief out on the company!"

The Lead Independent Director, a veteran investor named Marcus Sterling, stood up. He looked at Jeffrey with utter disgust. "Jeffrey, shut your mouth. Is this financial report accurate?"

"It's... it's a misunderstanding of operational costs—"

"It is embezzlement," Madeline interrupted smoothly. "And because those funds were routed through international banking lines using my digital signature without my authorization, it constitutes wire fraud. I have already filed a formal complaint with the SEC and the Department of Justice."

Marcus Sterling turned to the rest of the board. "I move for an immediate vote to strip Jeffrey Vance of his executive powers, pending a full forensic audit, and install Madeline Vance as Interim Chief Executive Officer."

"Seconded," three board members blurted out simultaneously.

"You can't do this!" Cynthia yelled, standing up and pointing an angry finger at Madeline. "Jeffrey built this company!"

"I built this company while Jeffrey bought you designer bags with stolen funds," Madeline snapped back, her voice dropping into a register of sheer authority. "Security, please escort Ms. Miller and Mrs. Noelle Vance off the premises. They are trespassers."

May you like

Two tall security guards stepped into the room. Within seconds, a screaming Noelle and a sobbing Cynthia were hauled out of the executive suite, their heels dragging along the carpet.

Jeffrey collapsed back into his leather executive chair, looking like a dead man walking. Madeline walked up to his side, bent down close to his ear, and whispered, "That was just your business, Jeffrey. By tonight, I’m coming for your house, your car, and your freedom."
