Chapter 6 - The Trap Snaps Shut

The courthouse plaza exploded into chaos. Reporters swarmed Jeffrey, thrusting microphones into his face, yelling questions over the deafening audio still playing from the digital billboards.

"Mr. Vance! Were you drugging your son?" "Is that your mother pouring sedatives into the child's cup?" "Who authorized the prescription?"

Jeffrey stumbled back, completely blind-sided. "No! That's... that's a deepfake! It's altered!"

Noelle began screaming frantically, trying to shield her face from the flashing cameras with her designer handbag. Cynthia took two steps back, attempting to slip away into the crowd, but two plainclothes detectives stepped out from behind a police cruiser, blocking her exit.

"Cynthia Miller?" one detective asked calmly, pulling out a pair of steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit severe child abuse, illegal distribution of controlled substances, and corporate fraud."

"Get your hands off me!" Cynthia shrieked as the steel cuffs clicked around her wrists. "It was Jeffrey! It was all Jeffrey’s idea! He promised me the house!"

"Cynthia, shut up!" Jeffrey screamed, his face turning a deep crimson.

"Don't tell me to shut up, you coward!" Cynthia spat back, being dragged toward a police vehicle. "He made me do it! He forged the signatures on the Cayman accounts!"

Before Jeffrey could take another step, three black SUVs pulled up to the curb. Federal agents from the FBI and officers from the Atlanta Police Department stepped out, led by the District Attorney himself.

, "Jeffrey Vance and Noelle Vance," the DA announced through a megaphone. "We have felony warrants for your arrest on charges of criminal child endangerment, poisoning, wire fraud, and grand larceny."

Noelle collapsed onto the concrete steps in a full-blown panic attack, her luxury facade completely shattered. Officers dragged Jeffrey to his knees, forcing his hands behind his back.

As the steel cuffs snapped shut around Jeffrey’s wrists, he caught sight of a sleek white sedan parked across the street.

The tinted rear window rolled down slowly.

Madeline sat in the back seat. She wasn't smiling, nor was she gloating. She simply looked at him with cold, absolute disdain. Beside her, little Liam sat in his car seat, holding a brand-new stuffed bear, looking out the window at the sparkling city.

Jeffrey opened his mouth to scream at her, but an officer shoved his head down into the police cruiser, slamming the door shut.

The media feeding frenzy was absolute. Within hours, the story broke nationwide: ‘TECH EXECUTIVE AND FAMILY ARRESTED IN CRUEL POISONING CONSPIRACY OF FOUR-YEAR-OLD SON.’

The public sympathy shifted instantly. The fake news articles were erased, replaced by an overwhelming wave of outrage against Jeffrey, Noelle, and Cynthia. Vance Tech’s stock skyrocketed as the board formally announced Madeline’s appointment as full CEO and Chairman of the Board.

The parasites were behind bars, but Madeline knew the hardest part of the war was far from over: healing the deep, silent wounds inside her son.
