Chapter 7 - The Reckoning at Haven Bridge

At 3:00 AM, while a team of private physicians was treating Milo for mild hypothermia in the penthouse, Marcus Whitfield arrived at the gates of the Haven Bridge estate in Skagit County. He didn't bring lawyers, and he didn't bring corporate contracts.

He brought four blacked-out transport vans filled with twenty-five elite, licensed private security personnel.

The heavy iron security gates of the facility were locked. Marcus looked at his driver. "Take them down."

The reinforced steel bumper of the lead SUV slammed into the gates at forty miles per hour, snapping the locks like toothpicks. The convoy roared up the gravel driveway, surrounding the grand colonial-style mansion.

The front doors opened, and Director Vance Caldwell, a sleek man in a silk dressing gown, stepped out into the rain, accompanied by three armed private security guards.

"Whitfield!" Caldwell shouted, trying to maintain his composure. "This is private property! You are committing federal trespass!"

The ConfessionMarcus walked up the steps, completely ignoring the guards' raised weapons. The sheer, predatory aura radiating from him made the guards hesitate, their fingers freezing on their triggers.

"Your guards work for money, Caldwell," Marcus said, his voice cutting through the wind. "I just bought the security firm that handles your payroll twenty minutes ago. Drop your weapons, gentlemen, or you forfeit your licenses and your freedom by sunrise."

The three guards looked at each other, then slowly lowered their firearms and stepped back into the shadows.

Marcus grabbed Caldwell by his silk lapels, dragging him into the grand foyer of the mansion. He threw a stack of financial documents onto the marble floor.

"These are the transaction logs from the Cayman accounts," Marcus said. "Showing exactly how much Thomas Sterling paid you to keep my children hidden and neglected. You're going to open your master server right now, Caldwell. You're going to give me every piece of data on Iris Callahan, and then you're going to sign a full confession for the federal prosecutors."

Caldwell sank to his knees, looking up at Marcus with pure terror. "I was just following orders, Whitfield! Sterling said you'd never find out! He said you only cared about the shipping lanes!"

"You chose the wrong family to exploit," Marcus whispered.
