Chapter 10 - The Horizon of Tomorrow

Three years later, the name Whitfield was no longer associated with hostile takeovers or corporate warfare in the Pacific Northwest. It belonged to the Iris Callahan Foundation for Vulnerable Children, a massive global network of sanctuaries, educational trusts, and legal defense groups funded entirely by Marcus’s personal wealth.
It was a beautiful summer evening on San Juan Island. The water of the sound was as smooth as glass, reflecting the pink and orange hues of the sunset.
A small wooden dock extended out into the water. Ten-year-old Wren and seven-year-old Milo were sitting at the edge, their bare feet dangling over the water, splashing gently. Marcus stood behind them, his hands resting gently on their shoulders.
A Legacy RestoredWren pulled a small, green plastic bead from her pocket—the last remnant of the broken bracelet she had carried into Marcus's life three years ago. She tossed it into the water, watching the ripples spread across the surface.
"Daddy?" she asked, looking up at him with those beautiful hazel eyes.
"Yes, sweetheart?"
"Do you think Mommy can see us?"
Marcus looked out at the horizon, where the sea met the sky in a line of perfect, golden light. For the first time in his adult life, he felt completely whole, completely at peace, his soul anchored by the love of the children he had almost lost.

"She sees you every single day, Wren," Marcus whispered, pulling both of his children into a deep, protective embrace. "And she knows that you are finally home."
The waves rolled in softly against the shore, carrying away the ghosts of the past, leaving only the beautiful, unbreakable promise of tomorrow.
