Chapter 8 - The Show and Tell

The gymnasium of St. Anthony Elementary School was packed with parents, teachers, and energetic kindergarten students for the annual "Community Heroes Show and Tell."

Children sat in rows on the polished wooden floor, showing off their parents' uniforms—firefighters, nurses, postal workers, and police officers.

Lily Turner sat in the front row, wearing a bright yellow dress, holding her sunflower drawing pad tightly in her lap.

Her teacher, Mrs. Gable, stepped up to the microphone with a warm smile.

"And our next student is Lily Turner!" Mrs. Gable announced. "Lily, who did you bring for your community hero today?"

Lily stood up proudly, walking up to the small stage. She adjusted the microphone, looking out at the crowd of sitting children and smiling parents.

"My community hero isn't a police officer," Lily spoke clearly into the microphone. "And he doesn't drive a fire truck."

The heavy double doors at the back of the gymnasium swung open.

A low, deep vibration shook the floorboards as Jack "Grizzly" Donovan walked into the room. He wore his clean black leather vest, dark jeans, polished boots, and his thick gray beard neatly brushed. Walking beside him were Red, Doc, and three other members of the Iron Guardians, each carrying small wooden gift boxes for every child in the kindergarten class.

The room fell dead silent for a second, several parents sitting up straight in surprise.

Lily pointed a small finger toward the giant biker walking down the center aisle.

"This is Grizzly," Lily announced proudly to the entire school. "He's a giant bear who jumps into swimming pools to catch falling houses!"

The gymnasium erupted into warm laughter and thunderous applause.

Jack walked up to the stage, crouching down beside Lily, taking off his black leather vest and placing it gently over her small shoulders like a regal cape.

"Brought you something, little bit," Jack whispered, pulling a small, hand-carved wooden toy motorcycle from his pocket—painted bright yellow, with a tiny helmet glued to the handlebars.

Lily gasped, taking the toy with wide, delighted eyes. "Is it mine?!"

"Carved it out of pine last night," Jack smiled. "Runs on imagination."

Rachel sat in the third row of the audience, tears of joy streaming down her cheeks as she watched her daughter hold Jack’s giant hand on the stage, beaming with pure, unbridled happiness.
