Chapter 2 - The Arrival of the Reapers

The heavy oak-and-steel front doors of the mansion didn't just open; they were forced.

A squad of federal marshals, led by Special Agent Marcus Vance—no relation to the disgraced family from earlier corporate scandals—poured into the foyer, their boots striking the marble with rhythmic, terrifying finality. Behind them walked a woman whose face was etched with twenty years of relentless grief and unyielding determination: Dr. Evelyn Vance, the brilliant neurologist whose career Victor Caldwell had systematically destroyed a decade ago.

"Victor Caldwell!" Agent Vance’s voice boomed across the cavernous room, cutting through the amber emergency glow. "Step away from the minors. You are under federal arrest for obstruction of justice, witness tampering, corporate manslaughter, and securities fraud."

Victor didn't move. He remained crumpled on the floor near Clara and Chloe’s wheelchairs, his expensive Italian suit stained with dust, his fingers twitching aimlessly against the polished stone.

Clara reached out, her small hands—which only moments ago had miraculously twitched—shaking as she touched her father’s shoulder. "Daddy? Who are they? What did you do?"

Victor flinched away from his daughter’s touch, not because he didn't love her, but because he couldn't bear the weight of her innocent gaze. The lie was dead. The empire was dust.

Evelyn Vance stepped past the marshals, her heels clicking sharply against the floor. She ignored Victor entirely, walking straight toward Maya and the two twins. Her eyes welled with sudden, overwhelming tears as she looked down at Clara and Chloe, then up at Maya.

"You found them," Evelyn whispered, her voice trembling.

"I told you I would, Dr. Vance," Maya replied, offering a soft, reassuring nod. "The truth always finds a way out of the dark."

Agent Vance walked over, looking down at Victor with utter disdain before signaling two officers to haul the fallen billionaire to his feet. They slapped steel cuffs around Victor’s wrists—the same wrists that had signed checks totaling millions to silence victims, now locked in cold, inescapable iron.

As Victor was dragged toward the front doors, past the shattered wine glasses and the stunned, terrified faces of his former associates, he caught sight of Evelyn.

"Evelyn..." Victor rasped, his voice a pathetic shadow of its former arrogance. "Please... the girls... they need care. You know their condition—"

"Their condition was engineered by your negligence and covered up by your bribes, Victor," Evelyn said coldly, her voice ringing with absolute authority. "And thanks to Maya, they are finally going to get the real medical treatment you denied them for three agonizing years."

Victor was hauled out into the cold night air, shoved into the back of a black federal SUV, and driven away from the glass mansion that had served as his fortress and his prison.

Inside the living room, the amber emergency lights finally clicked off, replaced by the warm, steady glow of the restored main grid.

Maya turned to Clara and Chloe, kneeling down once more. This time, there was no hesitation, no doubt. She took their small hands in hers, her eyes shining with quiet triumph.

"Come on," Maya whispered gently. "Let's help you stand."
