Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Execution

Back at the headquarters of Harrington Luxe, the atmosphere in the boardroom had turned suffocatingly cold.

Graham was staring at me, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. The reality of his situation was slowly sinking in, carving through his arrogance and leaving behind a raw, desperate terror.

"Evelyn... please," Graham stuttered, taking a cautious step toward the head of the table. "Can we... can we talk about this in private? We’re married! We’re a team! If... if you have all this money, why didn't you tell me? We could have built an even bigger empire together! Think of our sons!"

"Do not speak about my sons," I said, my voice dropping like a hammer. "You called them bastards last night, Graham. You watched your mother spit at me while I held them in the freezing cold. You shoved a suitcase into my ribs while I was recovering from childbirth. You didn't care about your sons twelve hours ago. Why do you care now?"

"I was stressed!" Graham pleaded, his eyes wide and wild. "The business was under pressure! My mother was nagging me! I made a mistake, Evelyn! A terrible mistake! I'll apologize to you! I'll get down on my knees right now and beg for your forgiveness!"

"Save your knees for court," I said coldly.

I gestured to the projector screen behind me. A bright light flashed on, displaying a comprehensive spreadsheet detailing hundreds of financial transactions.

"For the past three years," I said, addressing the board of directors, "Graham Harrington has been siphoning corporate funds from Harrington Luxe into personal off-shore accounts. He used corporate loans granted by Vanguard Capital to purchase luxury vehicles, high-end jewelry for his mother, and private vacation charters—all while reporting fake losses to avoid paying dividends to minority shareholders."

The board members gasped, looking at Graham with newfound fury.

"Is this true, Graham?!" Richard Vance shouted, slamming his fist onto the table. "You’ve been embezzling from the company?!"

"It’s not embezzlement!" Graham yelled frantically, his sweat soaking through his collar. "It was... executive compensation! Standard perks!"

"Unauthorized perks exceeding four million dollars," Marcus interjected, pulling out an official document. "Which constitutes corporate embezzlement, tax fraud, and breach of fiduciary duty. We have already filed a formal complaint with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the financial crimes division."

Graham looked like he was about to faint. His knees wobbled, and he grabbed the back of a chair to keep himself upright. "Evelyn... you can't do this to me. I’m your husband!"

"Not for long," I replied smoothly.

I took a sleek silver fountain pen from my pocket and signed three copies of a document sitting in front of me. Marcus picked them up and slid them across the long table until they landed directly in front of Graham.

"These are unconditional divorce papers," Marcus said. "Ms. Vale is offering you a choice. Sign these papers today, waive all claims to spousal support, child custody, and marital property, and agree to surrender your equity in Harrington Luxe back to the parent company."

Graham stared at the papers, his hands trembling. "And... and if I don't sign?"

I leaned back in my chair, looking at him with absolute indifference. "If you don't sign, my legal team will press full criminal charges for embezzlement, fraud, and child endangerment. You will spend the next fifteen to twenty years in a federal prison, and by the time you get out, you won't even have enough money to buy a slice of bread."

"You’re... you’re a monster," Graham whispered, tears of terror finally overflowing down his cheeks.

"No, Graham," I said softly, looking him dead in the eye. "I was a loving wife who gave you every opportunity to be a good man. You chose to be a monster. I am simply the consequence."

Graham fell into the chair, clutching the pen with shaking fingers. He couldn't fight. He had no legal team that could stand up to Vale International's legal division. He had no money to retain a lawyer, no assets to offer as collateral, and no allies left in the room.

With a weeping sob, Graham pressed the pen to the paper and signed his name on all three copies.

"Effective immediately," I announced, standing up from the table, "Graham Harrington is terminated from his position as CEO of Harrington Luxe. Security, please escort Mr. Harrington out of the building. Ensure he leaves with nothing other than the clothes on his back."

Two heavy-set security guards stepped forward, grasping Graham by his upper arms and hauling him out of his seat. He wept openly as he was dragged down the central aisle of the office, past all his employees who stood watching in stunned silence.

I turned to the board of directors. "Harrington Luxe will undergo a total rebrand under the Vale International umbrella. All legitimate employees will retain their jobs and receive a twenty percent salary increase to compensate for the stress caused by former management. Meeting adjourned."
