Chapter 7 - The Breach

The world seemed to stop moving.
Silas turned around violently, his eyes searching the surrounding treeline, the quiet lake, and the clear blue sky.
"How?" Silas demanded, his voice dropping into a dangerous, lethal whisper. "How did he find this location?"
"Rossi," Marco said, pointing toward the gatehouse where guards were dragging a bleeding, disheveled man out of a crumpled luxury sedan. "Rossi had a secondary tracking device installed on my vehicle during the council meeting in Chicago. He was playing both sides, Silas! He was feeding location data to Cordero in exchange for protection!"
Silas walked over to Rossi with long, terrifying strides. The Chicago boss was slouched against the stone wall of the gatehouse, clutching a severe gunshot wound to his stomach, gasping for air.
Silas grabbed Rossi by the collar of his blood-soaked shirt, slamming him against the stone wall with terrifying force.
"You sold us out," Silas snarled, his face inches from Rossi’s pale, trembling face.
"Silas... please..." Rossi gasped, blood spilling over his lips. "Cordero... he threatened my family! He had snipers on my daughter's school! I had no choice!"
"Where are they?" Silas demanded, his hand tightening around Rossi’s throat. "WHERE ARE THEY?!"
"They... they aren't coming by road..." Rossi wheezed out, his eyes rolling back in terror. "Cordero spent his last cash... hired mercenary teams... air assault... boat teams from across the lake... they're already... here..."
Before Rossi could finish his sentence, the sharp, rhythmic thud-thud-thud of heavy helicopter rotors echoed over the treeline from the south.
At the same time, the roar of high-powered speedboats cut across the glassy surface of Geneva Lake from the east.
"LOCKDOWN!" Silas screamed at the top of his lungs, dropping Rossi to the ground. "GET MAYA TO THE BUNKER! NOW!"
Alarm sirens began blaring across the estate, their high-pitched wails tearing through the tranquil forest.
Clara sprinted toward the lake, scooping Maya off the tire swing in one fluid movement. Buster barked frantically, running right beside them as heavy automatic gunfire began tearing through the pine trees from the incoming speedboats.
"Daddy!" Maya screamed, looking back over Clara’s shoulder as bullets kicked up plumes of dirt and water along the shoreline.
"Run, Maya!" Silas shouted, drawing two handguns from his harness as he ran to cover Clara’s retreat toward the main lodge. "Get inside!"
Two high-speed tactical boats slammed onto the wooden dock, and eight heavily armed mercenaries in black tactical gear jumped onto the planks, opening fire on the lodge with automatic rifles.
"Marco, suppress the dock!" Silas ordered, taking cover behind a heavy stone pillar on the patio and firing precise, lethal shots that dropped the first two mercenaries into the water.
Marco stepped out onto the lawn carrying an automatic light machine gun, laying down a devastating wall of lead that chewed through the wooden dock, forcing the remaining attackers to leap for cover behind their boats.
Above them, a black, unmarked tactical helicopter hovered over the roof of the lodge. Fast-ropes dropped from the open doors, and six heavily armed assault troops began sliding down onto the roof.
"They're taking the upper floors!" Clara shouted over the internal radio from inside the lodge. "I'm taking Maya down to the vault!"
"Hold the vault door, Clara!" Silas barked into his headset. "Don't open it for anyone except me or Marco!"
Silas turned to Marco. "Cover the back entrance! I'm going inside to clear the roof teams!"
Silas kicked open the reinforced glass doors of the patio, stepping into the lodge as the heavy wooden ceiling beams groaned under the weight of the boots on the roof.
The breach had begun. Cordero had thrown his final, desperate strike, committing everything he had left to take the child and destroy Silas Mercer once and for all.
Silas moved through the halls of his home like a ghost of pure vengeance. His eyes were cold, his pulse slow and deliberate. He didn't feel fear; he felt only an absolute, murderous clarity.
May you like
They had come into his home. They had threatened his daughter.
And none of them were going to leave this property alive.
