Chapter 10 - A Life Worth Living

The sun was setting over the estate on the hill, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of crimson, gold, and soft purple.
The grand dining room of the Malone estate was filled with warmth, laughter, and the mouth-watering aroma of Chef Jean’s finest cooking. At the long mahogany table, a real family was gathered.
Liam sat at one end, telling animated stories about his days in the military to Gracie, who was laughing uncontrollably, her red braids bouncing as she fed small pieces of roast chicken to her puppy beneath the table. Marcus and Viktor sat nearby, enjoying fine wine and engaging in good-natured debate about the new community center’s expansion plans.

Connor looked at her, bringing her hand to his lips and pressing a tender kiss against her knuckles.
"What are you thinking about?" Sarah asked softly, her eyes filled with endless love.
"I'm thinking," Connor said, looking across the table at Gracie, who was currently attempting to teach Chef Jean how to do a magic trick with a spoon, "that buying those bananas was the best investment I ever made."
Sarah laughed, a bright, musical sound that echoed off the high ceilings, settling deep into Connor’s soul.

"It wasn't an investment, Connor," Sarah whispered, leaning over to rest her head against his shoulder. "It was a miracle."
Outside, the stars began to appear in the clear night sky over the quiet, peaceful estate. The war was over. The debt was paid in full. And in the warm light of the mansion, the mafia boss, the resilient woman, and the brave little girl who counted coins had finally found their home.
