Chapter 6 - THE FAMILY SECRET

The morning light filled the dining room as Alejandro, Don Roberto, and Nicolás sat around the large table, surrounded by the contents of Sofía’s journal.

Among the letters and photographs, they had found financial documents that revealed an extraordinary truth.

During the final months of her life, Sofía had established a private, anonymous trust fund using her personal inheritance—completely separate from Alejandro’s business empire. The trust was designed to fund pediatric cancer research and provide free medical treatment for underprivileged children in Mexico City.

And the co-trustee named in the original legal document was Valeria Reyes.

"She didn't just leave a journal," Don Roberto said, adjusting his reading glasses as he examined the legal papers. "Sofía left fifty million pesos to establish a medical foundation. But because Valeria passed away and you locked down all of Sofía’s accounts, the trust has been frozen in probate court for five years!"

Alejandro stared at the documents in utter shock. "Sofía set this up with Valeria?"

"Yes," Don Roberto nodded, a proud smile touching his old lips. "Valeria wasn't trying to ask you for money, Alejandro. She was trying to deliver the legal authority for the foundation so that poor children—children like her daughter Daniela and her late son Leo—could get life-saving medical care!"

Alejandro slumped back in his chair, overwhelmed by the weight of his past errors.

All this time, he had viewed Valeria and Daniela as poor outsiders looking for a hand-out. In reality, Valeria had been the guardian of Sofía’s greatest philanthropic dream—a dream that Alejandro’s blind arrogance had stalled for half a decade.

"Dad," Nicolás said, laying a hand on Alejandro’s arm. "Can we fulfill Mom's dream now?"

Alejandro looked at his son, seeing Sofía’s bright, compassionate spirit shining clearly through the boy's eyes.

"We aren't just going to fulfill it, Santi," Alejandro said, his voice firm with a renewed sense of purpose. "We are going to build something incredible. And we are going to do it together."

Later that afternoon, Alejandro summoned his legal team, PR representatives, and corporate board to the top floor of Montes Tower.

When Marcos stepped into the room holding a revised press statement designed to defend Alejandro’s reputation, Alejandro took the paper from his hand and tore it into pieces.

"Sir?" Marcos gasped.

"We are not releasing a defensive statement," Alejandro declared, standing at the head of the boardroom table. "We are holding a live press conference tomorrow morning at Parque México."

"At the park?" Marcos looked terrified. "Sir, the media is still tearing you apart online! The camera crews will devour you!"

"Let them come," Alejandro said calmly. "It's time Mexico City sees who I really am—and who the real heroes of this city are."
