Chapter 6 - Shadows on the Horizon

Two weeks passed peacefully. The leaves in Dorchester turned brilliant hues of crimson and gold, and Harbor House thrived under its new sense of security and abundance.
Dominic visited almost every afternoon. The cold, unyielding Don who had spent his life surrounded by violence and corruption was slowly rediscovering his humanity. He sat at low wooden tables playing board games with Sophie, helped Claire organize supplies, and even bought new winter coats for all forty-one children at the center.
The staff at Harbor House, initially terrified of his reputation, quickly came to revere him as a quiet guardian angel.
However, in the dark underbelly of Boston, the peace was shattered.
Sean O'Connor had not accepted his defeat. Humiliated by Dominic at the brewery meeting and stripped of his lucrative protection rackets, O'Connor had secretly allied himself with a ruthless rogue faction from New York—men who cared nothing for local honor or territory agreements.
On a rainy Tuesday evening, Dominic was sitting in his forty-first-floor office at Vale Holdings, reviewing construction blueprints for the new playground.
Noah Grant burst into the office without knocking, his face pale as chalk.
"Boss! It's O'Connor!" Noah shouted, holding his phone. "Our surveillance team on South Street was just hit! Three of our guards are down!"
Dominic stood up instantly, his chair slamming back against the glass wall. "Where is Claire? Where is Sophie?!"
"They were leaving Harbor House in the armored SUV with Marcus driving," Noah reported frantically. "O'Connor’s men ambushed them near the industrial park on 4th Street! They rammed the vehicle... Marcus is pinned inside, and O'Connor’s crew took Claire and Sophie!"
A sound came out of Dominic’s chest—a low, guttural roar of pure, apocalyptic fury that shattered the crystal glass on his desk.

The Don Vale who had shown softness over the past month vanished instantly. In his place stood the deadliest predator in New England, his eyes burning with a terrifying, demonic fire.
"Assemble every man we have," Dominic commanded, his voice dropping into absolute, terrifying ice. "Every soldier, every gun, every vehicle. We are going to wipe Sean O'Connor off the face of this earth."
