Chapter 8 - The Bloodline Revealed

The fallout from the Plaza Gala scandal dominated global news headlines for three days. Victoria Vance was formally indicted, while Arthur Vance was forced to resign from Vance Holdings as stock prices plummeted.

Meanwhile, inside the quiet sanctuary of the Buchanan mansion, a different kind of truth was waiting to be unveiled.

Valerie sat in Franklin’s private study. The afternoon sun poured through the high windows, illuminating the old green metal tin box sitting on the mahogany desk between them.

Franklin sat across from her, holding the faded birth certificate, the medical records from St. Jude’s Hospital, and the silver signet ring bearing the Buchanan family crest.

His hands were shaking.

"Sarah Cole..." Franklin whispered, his voice trembling as he traced the signature on the adoption paper. "My brother Richard... he had a daughter."

"My mother kept it a secret for twenty-eight years," Valerie said softly, her eyes looking out at the garden where Emma and Lily were playing. "She was terrified your family would destroy us if we ever claimed the name."

Franklin looked up at Valerie, awe and profound sorrow washing over his face. "When Richard died in that plane crash ten years ago, I thought our entire branch of the family was reduced to just me and the girls. I had no idea... I had a niece."

He stood up, walked around the heavy desk, and knelt beside Valerie’s chair, taking both of her hands into his.

"The cruelty my brother showed your mother was monstrous, Valerie," Franklin said, tears spilling down his cheeks. "He was a bitter, selfish man, and my father covered up his mistakes to protect the stock price. I am so sorry for the poverty you suffered. I am so sorry for every floor you had to scrub while sitting on a fortune that was rightfully yours."

"Franklin, I didn't show you this to demand money," Valerie said gently, wiping a tear from his cheek. "I don't care about the Buchanan millions."

"I know you don't," Franklin smiled through his tears. "That's why you deserve every bit of it. Under my father's original trust, twenty-five percent of Buchanan Capital belongs to Richard’s legal heir. You are not a maid, Valerie. You are a true Buchanan. You are my family."

He squeezed her hands tightly. "And more than that... you are the woman who saved my daughters, and saved my soul."
