Chapter 10 - The Garden of Truth

Eighteen months later.
The spring sun was warm and golden over the rolling hills of Tuscany.
The cypress trees lined the gravel driveway of my villa, rustling gently in the sweet, warm breeze blowing off the Mediterranean Sea. The dark clouds of betrayal, court trials, and corporate restructuring had long since passed, leaving behind a clean, peaceful world.
Matteo Rossi and Elena had both been sentenced to twenty-five years in a federal prison complex in Calabria, their stolen assets liquidated to restore the corporate treasury. My company had been completely transformed, its operations fully transparent, legitimate, and stronger than ever.
I stood on the wide stone terrace of my villa, sipping a glass of fresh lemonade, watching the lower gardens.
Down near the fountain, Tomas was expertly pruning a hedge of white roses, his weathered face relaxed and happy.
Running through the green grass beside him was eight-year-old Sophia, playing with a energetic young golden retriever puppy I had gifted her for her birthday. Her laughter carried across the quiet afternoon air—bright, pure, and free of fear.
Bram walked out onto the terrace, wearing a casual linen shirt, carrying a folder of legitimate maritime shipping contracts under his arm.
"The port expansion in Genoa was officially approved this morning, Boss," Bram said, setting the papers on the outdoor table. "No friction, no shadow accounts, no problems."
"Good," I replied, taking a sip of my lemonade. "And the trust fund for Sophia’s education?"
"Fully funded through her twenty-fifth birthday," Bram smiled. "She’ll be able to attend any university in the world."
I walked down the stone steps toward the lower garden, stopping near the edge of the rose bushes.
Sophia saw me and came running up the lawn, her puppy tumbling along behind her feet, her dark eyes shining with bright intelligence.
"Mr. Julian!" she called out, stopping near my knees. "Look! The puppy found a secret tunnel under the old bench!"
I knelt down on the soft grass, looking at the sharp, wonderful child who had saved my life on a cold October morning.
"Is it a safe tunnel, Sophia?" I asked with a warm smile.
She nodded proudly, her little face serious for just a second before breaking into a wide, brilliant grin.

"It’s completely safe," she said happily. "I checked every small detail."
I pulled her into a warm hug, looking out over the peaceful green hills of my home, knowing that as long as we paid attention to the small truths in this world, the dark shadows would never return again.
