Chapter 10 - The Dawn of a New Day

One year later.

The chapel at Fort Meade was filled with white lilies, soft candlelight, and three hundred military officers, federal agents, and friends dressed in formal attire.

The organ music echoed softly through the high vaulted arches as the heavy double doors opened at the rear of the sanctuary.

I stood at the altar in my crisp dress uniform, my medals shining under the stained-glass windows. Standing beside me as my best man was Commander Marcus Brody, smiling broadly.

Walking down the aisle toward me was Marcus’s younger brother, Captain Daniel Brody—a brilliant, kind-hearted judge advocate general officer who had worked alongside me during the complex federal prosecutions over the past year.

Through months of shared hardship, legal battles, and long nights rebuilding justice from the ashes of betrayal, Daniel and I had found a deep, unwavering love born of mutual respect, trust, and truth.

Walking down the aisle directly ahead of Daniel was my mother, Nancy.

She wore an elegant dusty-rose gown, walking with perfect posture and complete confidence, holding a bouquet of yellow roses—the international symbol of new beginnings and hope.

As Daniel reached the altar, he took my hand, his blue eyes filled with warmth and devotion.

"You look breathtaking, Kelsey," Daniel whispered softly.

"I feel free, Daniel," I replied, a genuine, joyful smile lighting up my face.

The chaplain stepped forward, raising his hands to bless the assembly.

"We are gathered here today," the chaplain announced, his voice echoing through the sacred space, "to celebrate not merely the union of two souls, but the triumph of light over darkness, of truth over deceit, and of love over betrayal."

As we exchanged our vows—promising honor, loyalty, and protection to one another—I looked out into the congregation.

Sitting in the front row, smiling radiantly through tears of pure happiness, was my mother.

There were no broken lenses today. No bleach, no blood, no lies hidden behind closed doors.

When the chaplain declared us husband and wife, Daniel pulled me into a warm, tender kiss. The congregation erupted into thunderous applause, echoing through the rafters of the chapel.

We walked out of the sanctuary hand in hand, stepping into the brilliant, warm sunlight of a beautiful afternoon.

My mother met us at the foot of the chapel steps, throwing her arms around both of us in a tight, joyous embrace.

"To new beginnings," Nancy toasted, holding up a glass of sparkling cider as the photographers captured the moment.

"To the truth," I added, looking up at the clear blue sky, holding my husband's hand tightly in mine. "Because the truth always sets us free."
