Chapter 8 - The Fall of Vance

With Linda in federal custody and her confession secured, the FBI executed a sweeping raid on Vance Global Enterprises the following morning.
Victor Vance was arrested at his penthouse suite, charged with corporate espionage, extortion, and illegal wire transfers. His financial empire collapsed within hours as trading on his stock was halted worldwide.

I answered.
“Claire...” his voice was broken, barely a rasp. “They took the house. They took everything. Marcus is facing fraud charges... I have nowhere to go.”
I stayed silent for a long moment, listening to the man who had spent my entire life making me feel small.
“Dad,” I said quietly. “I will pay for a small, one-bedroom apartment for you and cover your basic groceries every month. But you will never hold a corporate position again, and you will never touch the Whitaker Trust.”
“Claire... please... I’m your father...” he sobbed.

“And I was your daughter,” I replied gently. “When I was struggling in Denver working two jobs, you introduced me as 'the one still figuring things out.' Now it's your turn to figure things out.”
I hung up the phone.
