Chapter 10 - The New Horizon

I sat on the porch of the house, the same one where Ethan had begged for entry two years ago. The air was cool, smelling of jasmine and pine. Julian sat next to me, his hand resting gently on mine.

"You’re quiet today," he said.

"I’m just thinking," I said, watching the stars come out. "About how fragile everything is. And how we have to be the ones to build our own foundations."

"You did a good job," he said, looking at the house. "This place feels like it has a soul now."

"It does," I agreed. "It’s built on truth."

I looked out at the street. The life I had built was strong, resilient, and honest. I had lost a husband, a performance, and a false sense of security, but I had gained everything that mattered.

I was Clara Jensen. I was a business owner, a strategist, a builder, and a survivor.

And I was definitely not boring.

I squeezed Julian’s hand and looked up at the night sky. The past was gone, the present was beautiful, and the future was entirely my own to design. I had started with a text message and ended with everything I ever needed.

The audit was complete. I had finally balanced the books of my life, and for the first time, I was truly in the black.
