Chapter 6 - The Aftermath of Fire

As the legal proceedings moved into the final stages, the reality of my new life began to set in. I was alone, but the house was no longer heavy with performance. It was light, quiet, and truly mine.
I started taking classes in entrepreneurship. I had the resources, the time, and the freedom to finally pursue the business I had dreamed of starting back in college. I was building a consulting firm—not for Ethan, but for myself.

My phone rang. It was Marcus. "Clara, the judge has finalized the asset distribution. You keep the house, the trust, and all personal investments. Ethan has been ordered to pay restitution for the embezzled funds. He’s essentially bankrupt."
"What about the divorce?"
"It’s granted. You’re free, Clara."

I hung up. I stood up and walked to the front door. The sun was setting, casting a warm, golden glow across the lawn. I felt a weightlessness that was almost dizzying.
I wasn't "boring" anymore. I was dangerous. And I was finally the person I was always meant to be.
