Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Victory

Five years after the incident.

The afternoon sun shone brightly over the manicured grounds of the Sterling Estate.

A high wrought-iron gate opened automatically as a sleek dark green sedan pulled up the long gravel driveway.

I stepped out of the car, holding the hand of my three-year-old daughter, Eleanor—named after the grandmother who had saved my life.

Julian walked beside us, carrying our infant son, Marcus, in his arms.

The estate had expanded into a breathtaking sanctuary—a place where children laughed, where gardens bloomed, and where true love and safety reigned supreme.

As we walked toward the sunroom for a family lunch, my personal assistant stepped out onto the porch, holding a thin leather tablet.

"Mrs. Sterling," she said respectfully. "A brief update from legal counsel regarding the parole hearing for Trevor Vance."

I stopped on the grass, holding my daughter’s tiny hand. "What happened?"

"The state parole board officially denied his early release petition," my assistant reported. "He will serve the full remaining three years of his eight-year sentence due to repeated disciplinary infractions. Miss Paige Vance was released last month and is currently working as a court-ordered community service worker in a distant county."

I listened to the report with complete calm.

"Thank you, Sarah," I replied gently. "That will be all."

I turned my head and looked up at the clear blue sky above my home.

I didn't feel hatred for Trevor or Paige. They were distant, insignificant shadows in a life that had grown far too bright for their darkness to ever reach again.

My grandmother's trust was secure. My family was safe. My heart was completely whole.

I took my daughter's hand, walked into my sunlit home alongside my husband, and closed the door on the past forever.
