Chapter 9 - The Proposal at Sunset

The following weekend, Julian invited Dileia to the highest point of the Marsh Estate—a picturesque stone gazebo perched on a rolling hill overlooking the Long Island Sound.
The evening sky was a breathtaking canvas of deep violet, orange, and gold. The sea breeze carried the cool scent of late autumn, rustling the leaves of the old oak trees surrounding the hilltop.
Dileia walked up the stone pathway wearing an elegant rose-colored dress. She found Julian standing inside the gazebo, which was illuminated by hundreds of soft, glowing fairy lights and decorated with white roses.
"Julian," Dileia said, her eyes sparkling with wonder. "What is all this?"
Julian turned to her, stepping out of the gazebo to meet her halfway. He looked handsomer than ever, his expression filled with a quiet, profound emotion.
"Dileia," Julian began, taking her hands into his. "Two years ago, I thought I had everything figure out. I thought success was about protecting a name, maintaining a legacy, and keeping up appearances. And then, on a night that was supposed to celebrate a lie, a brave little girl looked behind a painting and brought the truth into my life."
Dileia’s chest rose and fell softly as she listened, her heart overflowing.
"Through that truth, I found you," Julian continued, his voice thick with genuine emotion. "I saw your dignity when you were wronged. I saw your courage when you stood up in court. And I saw the beauty of your heart as you transformed pain into hope for so many other people. You and Sophia didn't just save this house, Dileia—you saved me."
Julian reached into his jacket pocket and knelt down on one knee on the mossy stone path.
He opened a small velvet box, revealing a flawless, ethically sourced emerald-cut diamond ring that caught the soft golden light of the setting sun.
"Dileia Brooks," Julian said, looking up into her eyes. "Will you do me the absolute honor of marrying me, and making this house a home for the rest of our lives?"
Tears of pure happiness overflowed Dileia’s eyes. She didn't hesitate for a single second.
"Yes!" she gasped softly, stepping forward. "Yes, Julian! A thousand times yes!"
Julian slipped the ring onto her finger and stood up, pulling her into a deep, loving embrace. As their lips met under the twilight sky, the distant sound of giggling echoed from down the hill.
They turned to see Sophia running up the stone steps, accompanied by Ethan, holding a gigantic bouquet of white flowers almost bigger than she was.
"Mommy! Mr. Julian!" Sophia squealed happily, throwing her arms around their legs. "Are we staying here forever now?"
May you like
Julian knelt down, picking Sophia up in one arm and wrapping his other arm around Dileia, drawing them both close against his chest.
"Yes, sweetheart," Julian smiled softly, kissing Sophia’s forehead and then looking at his future wife. "We are staying here forever."
