Chapter 10 - The Lullaby at Sunset

Eighteen months later.

The summer sun was setting over the Long Island Sound, painting the sky over the Callahan estate in breathtaking shades of gold, rose, and brilliant amber.

The iron gates of the estate were open wide. The heavy security presence had been scaled back, replaced by lush flower gardens, open lawns, and the joyful sounds of children playing.

On the grand back patio overlooking the water, a large wooden table was set for dinner.

Noah—now eight years old, healthy, vibrant, and speaking fluently—was running across the green lawn, holding a remote-controlled airplane. Beside him ran four-year-old Lily, laughing hysterically as she tried to catch the plane's shadow.

Claire stood by the wooden table, wearing a simple white sundress, laying out fresh plates of food. She looked whole, radiant, and completely at peace.

A pair of warm, strong arms wrapped gently around her waist from behind.

Vincent leaned down, pressing a soft kiss against the side of her neck. He was wearing a simple linen shirt, no longer carrying the dark, suffocating weight of his past. The criminal syndicate had been completely restructured into legitimate international shipping logistics, managed cleanly under legal trusts.

"Are the kids ready for dinner?" Vincent asked softly into her ear.

Claire turned in his embrace, resting her hands against his chest, smiling up into his dark eyes. "Noah’s about to land his plane on Frank’s head if you don't call them."

Vincent laughed—a rich, beautiful sound that echoed across the lawn.

He looked out over the grass where Frank Vance, now serving as the head of estate security and family protection, was happily letting Lily climb onto his shoulders while Noah demonstrated his airplane maneuvers.

"Noah!" Vincent called out, his voice strong and warm. "Lily! Dinner's ready!"

Both children stopped immediately, turning toward the patio with bright, joyous smiles.

"Coming, Dad!" Noah yelled back, taking Lily’s hand and running up the stone steps toward the patio.

As the family sat down around the table, the warm evening breeze swept off the ocean, carrying the sweet scent of jasmine and salt air.

After dinner, as the stars began to twinkle in the darkening sky, Noah walked over to the edge of the patio. He pulled a small wooden music box from his pocket—his mother Caroline’s music box.

He turned the brass key.

The delicate melody floated out into the warm night air.

Noah didn't listen in fear or silence anymore. He stood beside Claire and Vincent, holding his father's hand with one arm and wrapping his other arm around Lily’s shoulders.

Noah looked up at Claire, his brown eyes sparkling in the twilight.

"Sing it, Claire," Noah requested softly. "Sing the song."

May you like

Claire smiled, tears of pure happiness welling in her eyes. She reached out, taking Vincent’s hand in hers, and began to sing the soft lullaby—the same song that had cut through four years of dark silence, the song that had saved a boy, exposed a betrayal, and brought a family home.

And as her voice carried across the quiet water, Noah sang along beside her, his voice clear, strong, and forever free.
