CHAPTER 5 — The Bank of Lies

I pulled out my phone.

Opened my banking app.

Five years.

Every transfer.

Every payment.

$1,800 monthly.

My mother’s account.

My hands went cold.

It wasn’t just abuse.

It was theft.

Systematic.

Clean.

Organized.

Sarah watched me carefully.

“What are you doing?”

I stood up slowly.

“I’m finding out how long they’ve been stealing from you.”

Her face tightened.

“They told me you knew.”

I froze.

“They said you were building something for the family,” she whispered. “That we were all part of it.”

A sharp realization hit me.

They hadn’t just stolen money.

They had rewritten my entire reality for her.

I turned back toward the house.

Music still playing.

Laughter still alive.

Inside, they were celebrating my sacrifice.

Outside, my son was starving.

That was when I made my decision.

May you like

I was not going back in as their son.

I was going back in as their consequences.
