Chapter 10 - The Dawn of a New Life

Three months later.
The Chicago sun was brilliant and warm, reflecting off the blue waters of Lake Michigan. The gardens of the DeLuca estate were in full bloom, filled with white roses, lavender, and lush green lawns.
There were no guards with rifles visible today. No dark convoys, no emergency hospital kits, no shadow of fear.
On the grand stone terrace overlooking the lake, a small, intimate gathering was taking place. Dr. Vance was there, along with Marco and a few close, trusted friends.
Harper stood near the edge of the terrace, looking out over the water. She was wearing a simple, elegant ivory silk dress—light, flowing, and comfortable, exposing her shoulders to the warm summer breeze.
The scars were still there on her back. They would always be there. But they no longer felt like a mark of shame or a prison sentence. They felt like armor—proof that she had survived the fire and emerged stronger on the other side.
A pair of strong, warm arms wrapped gently around her waist from behind.
Enzo pulled her close against his chest, resting his chin softly on her shoulder. He smelled of fresh soap, sunshine, and cedar.
"What are you thinking about?" Enzo whispered, his voice warm against her ear.
Harper leaned back into his solid frame, placing her hands over his. "I was thinking about the night I arrived here," she admitted softly. "I was so terrified. I thought my life was over."
Enzo kissed her cheek gently. "And now?"
Harper turned around in his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck, looking into his dark, beautiful eyes. The shadows that had once plagued his gaze were gone, replaced by a deep, unwavering love and contentment.
"And now," Harper smiled, her eyes shining with genuine happiness, "I know my life was just beginning."
Enzo smiled—a wide, breathtaking smile that reached his eyes. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box. He opened it, revealing a simple, gorgeous platinum band set with an exquisite sapphire that matched the exact color of her eyes.
"No forced contracts," Enzo said softly, taking her left hand. "No revenge. No debts. Just a promise, Harper. From me to you."
He slid the ring onto her finger.
"I love you, Harper Whitcomb DeLuca," Enzo said, his voice thick with emotion. "With every breath I have left."
Harper felt a sweet, joyful tear slip down her cheek. "I love you, Enzo. My protector. My husband."

Enzo leaned down and pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss as the warm summer wind blew across the terrace.
The dark past had burned to ashes, the ghosts of their grief were finally at peace, and together, standing on the edge of a bright new horizon, the Mafia Boss and his bride had built a kingdom of love, strength, and absolute freedom.
