Chapter 6 - The New Order

Six months later.
The grand reopening of the Chicago Cultural Center was the most anticipated event of the autumn season. The elite of the Midwest gathered under the stained-glass dome, sipping champagne and admiring the newly curated collection of international treasures.
Among the crowd, rumors circulated endlessly.
The DeLuca crime family was entirely dismantled. Arthur Crowe was serving a twenty-year sentence for corporate conspiracy and attempted murder. Madison Crowe’s social empire had completely evaporated, her name erased from every charity board in the country.
And Vale Logistics had transformed into the nation’s premier private security and cultural restoration corporation.
The heavy oak doors opened, and a quiet hush fell over the crowd.
Adrian Vale walked into the ballroom. He was breathtakingly handsome in a bespoke charcoal tuxedo, his posture commanding and powerful. But he was not walking alone.
On his arm was Elena Hart.
She wore a breathtaking royal blue velvet gown that flared gracefully at the waist, accented by a simple, exquisite sapphire necklace that matched the exact hue of her dress. Her hair was swept up in an elegant chignon, and she walked with total confidence, her slender hand resting lightly on Adrian’s arm, her white cane folded neatly in her clutch.
She wasn't hiding. She wasn't stumbling. She was radiant.
Preston Hale, who had managed to retain his position on the auction committee only by issuing a public apology to Elena, scurried over with a nervous smile.
“Miss Hart! Mr. Vale!” Preston stammered, offering a bow. “What an honor. Truly. The committee is deeply indebted to you for curating tonight’s exhibition.”
Elena stopped, her face serenely composed. “Mr. Hale. I trust the floor steps are clearly marked tonight?”
Preston’s face turned bright red. “Yes! Of course! We’ve had the entire marble staircase re-carpeted with non-slip velvet!”
“Good,” Elena said calmly. “It would be a pity if someone fell.”
Adrian smirked, casting a warm glance at Elena before turning back to Preston. “We are here for the unveiling, Preston. Let’s proceed.”
Preston nodded frantically, ushering them toward the center of the grand room, where a pedestal stood beneath a velvet drape. Surrounding it were diplomats, museum curators, and law enforcement officials from three countries.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Preston announced into the microphone. “Tonight, thanks to the heroic efforts of Miss Elena Hart and Vale Logistics, we present a true masterpiece—recovered from a private vault in Europe and fully authenticated.”
The velvet cloth was pulled away.
Resting on the pedestal was the real Romanov Eagle—a delicate, breathtaking antique of solid yellow gold, encrusted with unheated Russian emeralds, radiating a timeless, quiet majesty.
The audience burst into genuine applause.
Elena walked up to the pedestal. She did not touch the gold—she didn't need to. She stood near it, feeling the temperature of the air around the ancient metal, listening to the solid, unyielding resonance of a century-old masterpiece.
“It’s real,” Elena murmured softly to the crowd. “Forged in 1892 by Mikhail Perchin. Gold purity ninety-six percent. Every gem hand-set without precision lasers. It carries history, not deception.”
The crowd applauded even louder.
Adrian stepped beside her, leaning down to whisper in her ear. “You look breathtaking tonight, partner.”

“I can feel everyone staring,” Elena whispered back, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
“Let them stare,” Adrian replied, his voice rich with pride. “They are looking at the woman who conquered Chicago without ever opening her eyes.”
