Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Gambit

Forty-eight hours before the formal Sterling Global shareholder meeting, I struck back.
Rather than waiting for my mother to leak distorted stories to the press, I invited the six most influential investigative journalists in New York to a private briefing at my Tribeca home.
Standing beside Mara, with four legal affidavits spread across the table—including recorded phone calls between Richard Vance and private investigators—I laid out the entire truth.
"For six years, Sterling Global’s leadership has operated under a web of deceit, fraud, and personal intimidation," I told the reporters, as camera flashes illuminated the room. "My mother, Eleanor Sterling, used corporate funds to destroy a young family and conceal the existence of four legitimate heirs to protect a commercial merger."
The story broke at 6:00 AM the following morning.
The headlines were ruthless: "THE STERLING CONSPIRACY: HEIR UNCOVERS SECRET QUADRUPLETS AND FAMILY TRAUMA." "ELEANOR STERLING ACCUSED OF FRAUD AND CHILD EXCLUSION IN HUNDRED-MILLION-DOLLAR ESTATE."
By 9:00 AM, Sterling Global stock plunged by fourteen percent. The Board of Directors called an emergency motion to strip Eleanor Sterling of her Chairmanship.
At 2:00 PM, I walked into the corporate boardroom on the 50th floor of the Sterling Tower.
Eleanor sat at the head of the table, looking paler and older than I had ever seen her. Her silver hair was slightly out of place, and her eyes were filled with a mixture of disbelief and icy venom.
"You destroyed thirty years of work in twenty-four hours," she whispered as I took a seat directly opposite her.
"No, Mother," I replied calmly, setting down a thick stack of proxy voting shares representing sixty-two percent of total shareholder support. "You destroyed it the moment you decided that money was worth more than human lives."
The board secretary cleared his throat. "The motion to remove Eleanor Sterling as Chair of the Board is now in session. All in favor?"
Every single hand at the table went up. Except my mother's.
Eleanor slowly stood up, grabbing her designer handbag. She looked at me with cold distance. "You think that girl loves you, Julian? She's here for the money you've restored to her."

"She stayed with me when I had nothing but a hospital bed and a broken brain, Mother," I said evenly. "She raised four incredible sons on a server's wage while you lived in luxury. She is ten times the human being you will ever be."
Without another word, Eleanor Sterling walked out of the boardroom, her reign over the empire officially at an end.
