Chapter 10 - Home at Last

Six months later.
Spring had arrived in Oakhaven. The sun shone bright over the rolling green hills of the Vance Estate, illuminating the newly renovated gardens where white roses bloomed in abundance.
The dark clouds that had hung over the Vance family for thirteen years had finally vanished. Arthur Vance and his network of corrupt accomplices were serving life sentences in federal prison, their assets seized and corporate influence completely dismantled.
On the grand terrace overlooking the estate, a massive wooden dining table was set for a celebration.
Julian Vance stood at the head of the table, wearing a relaxed linen shirt, a bright, genuine smile on his face—a smile no one in Oakhaven had seen for over a decade.
Beside him sat Leo, now dressed in sharp, tailored clothes, happily explaining a new miniature robotic drone design to a team of engineers Julian had hired for him.
And sitting across from them were Emily and Grace.
They were no longer the dirty, starving five-year-old twins who hunted for plastic bottles in the supermarket trash. They were confident, beautiful young women. Emily was now studying international law at the state university, while Grace was heading the newly established Monica Vance Foundation—a multi-million-dollar charitable organization dedicated to rescuing, feeding, and educating homeless children across the country.
Julian picked up his glass of sparkling juice and tapped it gently with a spoon. The terrace went quiet.
"Thirteen years ago," Julian began, his voice filled with deep, resonant emotion, "I lost everything that mattered to me. I thought my world was permanently dark."
He looked at Leo, then turned his gaze directly toward Emily and Grace.
"Many people believe that family is defined strictly by blood," Julian continued, his eyes glistening with tears of gratitude. "But these two extraordinary young women showed me the true meaning of family. When the world threw my son away, they picked him up. They gave him warmth, they gave him love, and they sacrificed their own childhoods to keep him safe."
Julian walked over to Emily and Grace, placing a warm, fatherly hand on both of their shoulders.
"Today, the legal adoption papers are finalized," Julian announced proudly. "Emily and Grace are officially my daughters. Vance International will no longer be just an empire of business—it will be a home built on the courage of three brothers and sisters."
The guests erupted into applause. Leo jumped out of his chair, throwing his arms around his sisters' necks.
"We did it, Em," Grace whispered, hugging her twin tightly. "Mom would be so proud."

Emily looked up at the clear blue sky, feeling a gentle breeze brush against her cheek, like a loving touch from the past. She reached into her pocket, feeling the cold silver medallion one last time, before letting it go.
They were no longer picking through the dirt for survival. They had found their way home.
