Chapter 6 - The Trap at the Boardroom

While Ethan restored his relationship with his children, his legal team set a trap for Daniel.

On a rainy Tuesday morning, Daniel called an emergency meeting of the Caldwell Freight Board of Directors. Believing Ethan was still emotional, broken, and distracted by his family situation, Daniel walked into the boardroom expecting to execute a vote of no confidence.

Daniel stood at the head of the mahogany conference table, smiling at the twelve board members.

"Gentlemen," Daniel began smoothly. "My brother Ethan has suffered a severe emotional breakdown following his overseas trip. He has abandoned his duties, neglected his children, and left the company rudderless. I move that we strip him of his CEO title and appoint me as interim—"

The heavy boardroom doors swung open.

Ethan walked in, wearing a sharp charcoal suit, flanked by Marcus Vance and two federal investigators from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Daniel’s smile vanished. "Ethan? What is this?"

Ethan walked to the head of the table, tossing a stack of financial audits onto the center of the board table.

"This is the paper trail of the four million dollars you embezzled from Caldwell Freight, Daniel," Ethan said calmly. "Along with the forged power of attorney documents you used to access my children's inheritance trusts."

Daniel’s face drained of color. "That’s... that’s a lie! I was managing those funds!"

Agent Torres stepped forward, pulling a pair of handcuffs from his belt. "Daniel Caldwell, you are under arrest for corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, identity theft, and grand larceny."

As the agents cuffed Daniel’s wrists behind his back, Daniel whirled around to face Ethan, his composure completely shattered.

"Ethan! Please! We're brothers! You can't do this to me!" Daniel yelled, his voice echoing down the hall as he was escorted away.

Ethan looked at him without anger—only a profound, quiet disappointment. "You stopped being my brother the day you threatened my children."
