Chapter 10 - The Vow on the Lake

A year later, under the warm gold of an early autumn sun, a private wedding took place on the manicured lawn of the Vale estate, right at the edge of Lake Michigan.
Soft piano music drifted through the air. White roses adorned a rustic wooden arch framing the glittering blue water.
Dominic stood under the arch wearing a immaculate black tuxedo. Standing beside him as his best man was ten-year-old Leo, looking sharp and proud in his matching suit. Eight-year-old Julian stood beside him holding the velvet ring box, while five-year-old twins Mateo and Mia stood ahead in matching formal clothes, dropping white rose petals along the runner.
The music shifted to a gentle, romantic melody.
Everyone stood up.
Nora walked down the aisle alone—not because she had no one to give her away, but because she was entering this new life on her own terms, as a strong, proud woman.
She wore a breathtaking ivory lace gown that flowed around her feet. Held gently in a front sling against her chest was her three-month-old daughter, little Hope Vale, sleeping peacefully against her mother's warmth.
Dominic’s eyes filled with tears as he watched his bride approach. When she reached the arch, he stepped down, gently helping her up, taking her hand into his large, warm grip.
The minister smiled warmly. "Who gives this woman to be married to this man?"
Leo stepped forward, his young voice ringing clear, strong, and full of pride across the lake. "We do! My brothers, my sister, and I!"
The guests clapped softly, wiping tears from their eyes. Nora looked at Leo, her heart overflowing with love, winking at her eldest son.
The minister turned to Dominic. "Dominic, do you take Nora to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love and protect, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?"
Dominic looked straight into Nora's eyes, his voice steady and vibrating with absolute truth. "I take you, Nora. You came into my dark world when we were broken and lost. You gave my children a mother, you gave my heart a home, and you gave us a future I never dreamed I deserved. I swear to protect you, love you, and honor you until my very last breath."
The minister turned to Nora. "Nora, do you take Dominic to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
Nora smiled, tears of pure joy slipping down her cheeks as she squeezed his hand. "I take you, Dominic. They told me I was broken, but your love proved I was whole. You gave me four beautiful children to love, a miracle daughter in my arms, and a man who loves me for exactly who I am. I am yours forever."
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the minister declared. "Dominic, you may kiss your bride."
Dominic leaned in tenderly, mindful of the baby resting against her chest, and pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed their eternal bond.

The crowd erupted in joyful applause. Leo, Julian, Mateo, and Mia rushed forward, wrapping their arms around their parents' waists, joining them in a massive, loving group embrace under the warm afternoon sun.
The dark days of pain, betrayal, and violence were buried forever. Nora had found her strength, Dominic had found his peace, and together with their five children, they walked forward into a bright, beautiful sunrise of unconditional love.
