Chapter 9 - The Reckoning

While peace reigned at the Osei estate, the wheels of justice completed their slow, unyielding turn in the city.
In the federal courthouse downtown, Silas Vance stood before the judge to receive his sentence. Convicted on multiple counts of corporate fraud, tax evasion, conspiracy, and evidence tampering, his downfall was absolute. The vast personal wealth he had accumulated was seized to pay restitution to the hundreds of small investors and contractors he had defrauded.
Odalys, convicted of felony assault and corporate sabotage, was sentenced to eight years in a state correctional facility, her sleek image and social ambitions entirely destroyed.
As Silas was led away in handcuffs, wearing a drab orange jumpsuit instead of his signature tailored suits, he caught a glimpse of a newspaper resting on a bench in the holding area.

The front page featured a large, beautiful photograph of Wren Osei standing alongside her father and holding her newborn daughter at the dedication of a new union training center. The headline read: OSEI-VANCE GLOBAL REPORTS RECORD GROWTH UNDER NEW ETHICAL LEADERSHIP.
Silas dropped his head, the reality of his choices finally closing in on him. He had sacrificed his honor, his family, and his freedom for an illusion of power—only to realize that the true power had belonged to the people he had held in contempt.
